Gabrielle Union Says Daughter Kaavia Isn’t Impressed by Bring It On

Gabrielle Union’s daughter needs her to bring it.

Dwyane Wade’s daughter, Kaavia James, doesn’t seem to be a fan of the movie Bring It On, even though she’s shown she can definitely act like the character Clover!

She’ll do some burpees, but she doesn’t think they’re very cool,” the 53-year-old told Will Marfuggi of TopMob News at the premiere of GOAT in Los Angeles on February 6.

Gabrielle Union admitted her 7-year-old daughter, nicknamed “Shady Baby” by her parents, doesn’t always think she’s cool, playfully stating, “Mom’s not the coolest.”

I’m so excited that my daughter, Kaavia, is starting to get into Bring It On! She’s only seen bits and pieces of the movie – you know, the one with Kirsten Dunst, Eliza Dushku, and Jesse Bradford that recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. Her mom, Gabrielle, isn’t pushing it, though, and honestly, I get it. Some of the humor might be a little much for her just yet, but I can’t wait until she’s old enough to fully appreciate it!

Gabrielle, married to Dwyane since 2014, isn’t overly worried about her daughter’s criticism. She recently showed her daughter the character Jett Fillmore from the movie GOAT, which comes out in theaters on February 13th, and her daughter liked it.

Gabrielle told me that her daughter had been playing with her collectible figurine and had already watched the trailer, making this viewing a first for the actual movie.

Kaavia loves to coordinate outfits with her mom! At a recent premiere, Gabrielle Union and her daughter both wore matching Proenza Schouler outfits. Gabrielle stunned in a tiger-print dress that showed off her midriff, while Kaavia rocked a cute, child-sized version of the dress with a blue and patterned design.

Gabrielle Union and her daughter Kaavia were accompanied on the red carpet by Dwyane Wade, who also appears in the film alongside Steph Curry and Caleb McLaughlin. Gabrielle also shared that a strong support system of couple friends – like Steph and Ayesha Curry – is a major factor in her and Dwyane’s successful 11-year marriage.

Okay, seriously, watching Steph and Ayesha together? It’s EVERYTHING. They just seem so genuinely happy and in love, and honestly, it’s inspiring. It makes me want what they have! But it’s more than just seeing them, you know? They’re actually involved in making our marriage better, like they really care about our happiness as much as we do ourselves. It feels like we’re all in this together, a little team supporting each other. It’s not just us working on things, it’s like a whole community effort, and it makes a huge difference!

Oh my gosh, you guys, it was EVERYTHING seeing Dwyane and Gabby send Zaya to her winter formal! It was back in January 2023, and she looked absolutely incredible. It just warms my heart to see them supporting her like that, even with everything that’s happened with her mom, Siovaughn Funches. Seriously, a perfect family moment!

Following Thanksgiving dinner with his family, Dwyane Wade responded to negative comments he’d seen online, criticizing those who made them on Twitter.

I’ve noticed some negative comments online about a recent family photo I shared after Thanksgiving. I understand there’s always going to be negativity, but I want to be clear: I lead my family, not anyone else. We’ll keep being ourselves and supporting each other with love, pride, and positivity.

Dwyane praised Zaya amid criticism from online trolls.

He mentioned on the All the Smoke podcast in 2019 that his 12-year-old is actually stronger and more courageous than he is. He believes you can learn a lot from your children, and his family often discusses the importance of truly seeing each of their kids and helping them understand the power of using their voice.

When Gabrielle was let go from America’s Got Talent in 2019, Dwyane Wade was fully supportive of her. He tweeted, “Men lie, Women lie, numbers don’t,” and explained that many people had told him Gabrielle was the reason they started watching or enjoying the show, highlighting her genuine perspective.
