Joan Vassos had an extra special connection to one of the NFL players in the 2026 Super Bowl.
The former star of The Golden Bachelorette recently revealed that her daughter, Erica Vassos, previously dated NFL player Stefon Diggs of the New England Patriots.
Joan revealed on the February 6th episode of the Almost Famous podcast with Ben Higgins and Ashley Iaconetti that her daughter dated Stefon Diggs while they were both in high school. Her daughter was a senior, and he attended a nearby school.
The 63-year-old, who has four children – Nicholas, 36, Erica, 33, Allison, 30, and Luke, 29 – with her late husband, John Vassos, shared that Stefon was like family. She said he often visited her home and she has photos of him with her children.
One of the pictures showed a family birthday party for John, who happened to share a birthday with the 32-year-old football player.
The reality star, who recently became engaged to her Golden Bachelorette finalist, Chock Chapple, shared that they had dinner at Morton’s steakhouse. She mentioned she has a photo of them there.
However, Joan made sure to clarify that this was all “pre-Cardi B.”

Stefon, whose team was defeated by the Seattle Seahawks 29-13 in the Super Bowl on February 8th, has been dating rapper Cardi B since May. This came after Cardi ended her seven-year marriage to Offset in August 2024.
Okay, so, like, Stefon and his girlfriend had a little boy back in November, which is AMAZING! And then, get this, he basically said if the Patriots win the Super Bowl, he’s totally proposing! I’m already planning the wedding in my head, seriously! It’s just…everything about them is perfect, and a Super Bowl proposal would be the most iconic thing EVER.
He told reporters on February 2nd, during the Super Bowl Opening Night, that it was something they were discussing. He added with a laugh, ‘First, I need to win the Super Bowl and get my ring!’
Stefon also complimented Cardi B, who shares three children with Offset – 7-year-old Kulture, 4-year-old Wave, and 16-month-old Blossom – and thanked her for being supportive throughout the season.
“I truly appreciate everything she does,” Stefon said. “She’s an incredible woman, and it means a lot that she supports me, especially knowing it’s not always easy. I can be a handful, but I always want to make sure she knows how much I value her being there for me – not just during good times, but even when she couldn’t physically be present.”
He mentioned that she was watching the games and had been texting him both before and after, checking in to make sure he was doing okay.

I was really surprised to hear that the couple, who seemed so solid before the Super Bowl, might be splitting up. Apparently, they’ve unfollowed each other on social media, and Page Six is reporting that’s fueling breakup rumors. It’s a shame if it’s true!
Cardi B briefly appeared during Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show and sparked some talk when she offered a simple “Good luck” to Stefon Diggs when an ESPN reporter asked if she had a message for him, then walked away. She also left the game before it finished, posting a video of herself singing along to Bad Bunny’s music while driving home after the halftime performance.
TopMob News has reached out to Cardi and Stefon’s reps for comment but has not heard back.
Joan’s daughter, Erica, married Brent Hiken in 2022, and they had a baby in 2023. This prompted Joan to leave Gerry Turner’s season of The Golden Bachelor so she could help Erica and care for her new grandchild.
Fans of The Bachelor might be shocked to learn Joan knows Stefon, but it’s not unusual for celebrities to have surprising friends. Here are some other unexpected celebrity friendships…
