Disney World Gay Days, the annual, multi-day event organized by fans and usually held in Orlando each June, will not take place in 2026, organizers have announced.
This decision cancels a popular, long-standing Pride-month event that usually attracts thousands of visitors to Central Florida, many of whom also visit Walt Disney World and other local theme parks. It would have been the event’s 35th year.
Organizers Cite Sponsorship and Event Viability Issues
Event organizers announced a temporary halt to the event, explaining that they are facing both logistical and financial challenges. This information was shared on the event’s website and social media pages.

Among the cited factors:
- Changes to host hotel agreements
- Loss of key sponsorship support
- Broader challenges currently impacting LGBTQIA+ events nationwide
The organizers emphasized that this decision wasn’t made easily and doesn’t mean the event will be canceled for good. They hope to bring it back in the future.
The official statement reads:
We’ve made the tough choice to postpone GayDays Orlando, which was planned for June 2026, after giving it a lot of thought.
We had to cancel the event because of issues with our hotel contract, a loss of funding, and difficulties facing LGBTQIA+ events across the country. These factors combined made it impossible to create the experience our community expects and deserves.
“This is a pause — not an ending.
For over three decades, GayDays has been created by and for the LGBTQ+ community. We’re now working to rebuild the event to be even better and last for years to come.
We’ll keep you informed about what’s next in the coming months as we build the future together. We appreciate your support, understanding, and for being a valued member of the GayDays community.
A Longstanding Unofficial Disney Parks Event
Unlike official events at Disney parks, Gay Days at Disney World has always been a fan-organized gathering, not a festival put on by Disney itself.
This tradition started in the early 1990s when people began visiting parks together, often wearing the same red shirts on specific days during Pride Month, to show their community spirit and visibility.

Over time, the meetup expanded into a full week of surrounding activities, including:
- Resort hotel takeovers
- Nightlife events
- Pool parties
- Convention-style gatherings
Although Walt Disney World doesn’t officially host or organize the event, the parks continue to be a popular meeting place for people attending it.
Past Criticism and Public Controversy
Although Disney World Gay Days has been running for many years, it has faced some criticism. Some families and visitors have expressed concern that certain activities during the event didn’t quite fit with Disney World’s family-friendly environment.

Complaints raised in past years have included:
- Concerns about excessive public displays of affection
- Reports of revealing or adult-themed attire in the parks or at resort hotels
- General questions about whether some surrounding events were appropriate given Disney’s core family audience
As a frequent visitor to Disney World, I’ve heard some complaints over the years, but they always seemed like isolated incidents or personal experiences, not evidence of a widespread problem with the park’s rules. From what I understand, Disney doesn’t actually change its dress code or behavior guidelines for events like Gay Days – they enforce the same standards they always do, and it’s handled by their regular security and operations teams. It’s not like they have a different set of rules for those days.

The discussion about how people perceived the event continues in the media and online, highlighting existing disagreements about how theme parks should be enjoyed by everyone.
Not Canceled — But Uncertain
Importantly, organizers did not label the 2026 situation as a cancellation.
Instead, they left the door open for several possibilities:
- A delayed 2026 gathering later in the year
- A full return in 2027
- A restructured or scaled-down format

Updates are expected in the coming months as leadership evaluates partnerships and event logistics.
Other Gay Days Events Continue
While Orlando’s flagship meetup is paused, similar branded events elsewhere remain on the calendar.

Even though the popular Gay Days event on the East Coast is currently on hold, other events like Gay Days Anaheim at Disneyland Resort are still planned, showing that the overall brand remains active.
What It Means for Disney World
Since Gay Days at Disney World isn’t an official Disney-sponsored event, the recent pause doesn’t change what Disney itself has planned for the parks.
The meetup has consistently brought a lot of visitors to the resort area each summer, especially in early June.

It’s still unclear if the break will actually change how many people travel, or if people will just reschedule their trips for different dates.
The planned Disney World meetup is currently on hold, and it’s unclear if the popular summer event will happen again as it did before, or if it will happen at all.
