Shocking Stephen King Movie Getting a New Remake (But The Director Is Actually Perfect)

Last year saw a lot of Stephen King stories come to the big screen, including adaptations of The Monkey, The Life of Chuck, The Long Walk, and The Running Man. Although none were huge blockbusters, they all received good reviews, proving how consistently engaging King’s stories are. It’s no surprise that filmmakers keep turning his work into movies and shows—even stories that have been adapted before. We’ve already heard about new versions of Carrie, Cujo, and The Dark Tower, and now another King story is getting the remake treatment.

Mike Flanagan, known for his work on horror series like The Haunting of Hill House, will be writing and directing a new movie based on Stephen King’s The Mist, according to Deadline. The project is currently in its initial planning stages, with no details yet available about when it might be released or who will star in it.

Mike Flanagan Is the Perfect Director for The Mist

It’s somewhat unexpected to learn a new version of The Mist is being made, considering it’s already been a movie in 2007 and a TV series around 2017. With so many other Stephen King stories waiting to be adapted, you’d think Flanagan and his team would choose something new. However, if anyone can make another adaptation of The Mist feel fresh and exciting, it’s Flanagan.

Mike Flanagan is well-known for his adaptations of Stephen King’s stories, having previously directed successful projects like Gerald’s Game, The Life of Chuck, and Doctor Sleep. He clearly understands King’s work and how to effectively bring it to the screen. Because of Flanagan’s track record, viewers have reason to be optimistic about this new movie version of The Mist. If another director was taking on the remake, there would be more cause for concern, but Flanagan’s involvement suggests it will be a worthwhile adaptation.

The story of The Mist seems perfectly suited for Mike Flanagan’s style. The plot – a group of people trapped in a supermarket while a mysterious mist descends on their town – offers classic Stephen King horror elements. But it’s also a story about people and how they react under extreme pressure, allowing Flanagan to explore deeper themes about human nature. He demonstrated his ability to handle the emotional core of King’s work with The Life of Chuck, even though that was a very different project.

I’m really excited about Mike Flanagan tackling The Mist! He’s incredibly busy right now – Carrie is finishing up, and he’s assembling an amazing cast for the new Exorcist movie. So, it might take a bit before we get a lot of details about his Mist project. But honestly, Warner Bros. wouldn’t be moving forward if they didn’t believe in it. The Mist has so much potential, and I’m eager to see what Flanagan does with it. Plus, the last movie really changed how King’s story ended, so I have a feeling Flanagan is planning some twists of his own – I can’t wait to see what he comes up with!
