6 Biggest Spoilers in Summer I Turned Pretty Book 3 (And Likely for Season 3)
Jeremiah Cheats on Belly
In my account, I can’t help but share an explosive revelation regarding Belly and Jeremiah’s relationship from “We’ll Always Have Summer.” It turns out that, during a college break, Jeremiah found himself in a compromising position with Lacie Baron at a frat party. The shocking truth came to light when Belly happened to overhear a conversation between Lacie and her friends during the post-finals celebration.
In simple terms, Jeremiah believed their split was irreversible, which led him to have an intimate moment with Lacie at a party. On the other hand, Belly had different thoughts, thinking they were merely in a heated argument. This infidelity incident marked their first official breakup in the book and was depicted in Season 3, Episode 1 of The Summer I Turned Pretty.
It’s unfortunate that Jeremiah didn’t share the truth with Belly, which seems to indicate that his careless and spontaneous personality continues to dominate his emotions towards her.
Belly & Jeremiah’s Engagement
After discovering Jeremiah had been unfaithful, Belly ended their relationship. Despite this, Jeremiah made efforts to reconcile and demonstrate that he valued her by showing remorse for his actions.
In a discussion, Jeremiah bravely suggested something unexpected – a proposal to Belly. This might have been his strategy to prevent losing her.
I was taken aback, yet found myself nodding affirmatively, as deep within me, I realized that my feelings for Jeremiah remained undiminished – despite the persistent sentiment I held for Conrad.
In the finale of Season 3, Episode 2 of Amazon Prime Video’s series adaptation of The Summer I Turned Pretty, it was shown that Belly and Jeremiah had gotten engaged, a fact that caused Belly to reconsider her plans for a study-abroad program in Paris.
Conrad Finally Admits His Real Feelings for Belly
During the garden dedication ceremony honoring Susannah Fisher (their late mother), Conrad confessed that, despite the passage of time, he has always harbored feelings for Belly. He revealed to Belly that his affection for her remained constant, but he suppressed it out of respect for his brother.
Conrad felt remorseful about how he acted towards her when they were together, understanding that he couldn’t alter the past. However, he demonstrated his affection for Belly in subtle ways, like persuading Laurel, Belly’s mother, to attend her bridal shower despite her initial reluctance, since she wasn’t fond of Belly’s wedding plans with Jeremiah.
Belly & Jeremiah’s Wedding Didn’t Push Through
It was clear that Belly and Jeremiah’s sudden plan to wed left their parents and Conrad feeling uncomfortable, as anticipated, they expressed their shock at the news and chose not to back their decision.
Laurel, Belly’s mother, ventured to bring Belly back home and prohibited her from marrying Jeremiah. However, Belly persisted in arranging the wedding despite her mother’s absence. The situation became more complicated when Lauren warned that she wouldn’t be present at the ceremony if it went ahead. Jeremiah made an effort to change her mind, but his attempts were unsuccessful.
Following a major argument with her mom, Belly chose to leave home and shift to the Cousins Beach House, which happens to be owned by the Fishers. Unbeknownst to her, Conrad was residing there as well. As a result, they found themselves living together under these unexpected circumstances.
As the wedding preparations progressed, Jeremiah grew increasingly envious of the arrangement, particularly since Conrad was assisting Belly. This feeling intensified in Conrad as the wedding day approached, leading him to feel more and more regretful for not expressing his feelings to Belly.
Conrad’s modest yet significant behaviors toward Belly significantly influenced her decisions. These actions led Belly to reconsider her plan to marry Jeremiah, ultimately helping her recognize that she harbored lingering feelings for Conrad.
Under the weight of the numerous challenges in organizing their wedding, the stress of tying the knot, and his doubts about Jeremiah, Belly found it all too much. Interestingly, it was not Belly who chose to postpone the wedding.
On the day of their wedding, Belly discovered that Jeremiah had fled, but luckily Conrad tracked him down in time for the ceremony. Nevertheless, Jeremiah decided against going through with the marriage when he understood that Belly was always meant to be with Conrad. In the end, Belly confessed her lingering feelings for Conrad, and they ended up calling off their wedding.
Belly Chooses Conrad
Following the cancellation of the wedding, “We’ll Always Have Summer” skips ahead in time, depicting Belly’s life change as she embarks on a study-abroad program in Spain (which will be portrayed as Paris in the series).
Spending time apart for Conrad and Belly gave them a chance to mend past hurts and gain a clearer understanding of their true emotions.
Following the time leap, now 24 years old, Belly found herself receiving letters penned by Conrad while she was residing in Spain. As their connection reignited, it became evident to Belly that her affection for Conrad would remain constant, and it would always run deeper than what she felt for Jeremiah.
Ultimately, Belly opted for Conrad, solidifying what proved to be the correct decision, as they were meant for one another no matter what challenges arose.
Belly & Conrad Got Married
The movie “We’ll Always Have Summer” concluded with yet another wedding, this one special because it was between Belly and Conrad. Notably, the venue for this union was Cousins Beach – the same location of their very first kiss.
It seems that Jeremiah has found a new companion and chose to attend the wedding with her, showing contentment for his brother and Belly. On the other hand, Steven (Belly’s brother) was also at the wedding, but the book doesn’t provide any details about who he might be dating; learn more about Steven’s possible future in “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 3 on Prime Video.
In this pivotal scene, Belly and Conrad solidified their position as the ultimate pairing in “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” providing them with the long-awaited resolution as they embark on crafting a shared future.
