Prince of Tennis & Captain Tsubasa Studio Announce New Postapocalyptic Anime

Following the success of Studio Kai’s popular sports series like “Prince of Tennis”, “Captain Tsubasa”, and “Uma Musume”, they are now introducing a captivating, icy new post-apocalyptic action-adventure sci-fi mecha series scheduled for release in 2026 – “Snowball Earth”! While some post-apocalyptic anime like “Touring After the Apocalypse” offer a more sunny and optimistic view, and others such as “Girls’ Last Tour” explore a colder, bleaker landscape, “Snowball Earth” aims to delve into an entirely frozen sci-fi world.

The title “Snowball Earth” might seem like a whimsical idea, but it’s actually a well-researched geological hypothesis. It suggests that during certain “icehouse climate” periods, the planet’s surface was completely frozen, with no liquid water on the surface. This is the opposite of the hot “greenhouse” periods. The term was first used by American geologist Joseph Kirschvink in 1992. So, there’s a rich scientific history behind this concept, making “Snowball Earth” far more than just another post-apocalyptic storyline.

Get Ready for a Chilly New Postapocalyptic Narrative

Despite Yukio’s death in battle, Tetsuo lived on. In a space pod, he fled the conflict, only to find out that his 8-year sleep was as cold as the frozen state of his home planet. When his pod finally reached Earth again, it was not the war-torn world he had left behind; instead, he woke up in a post-apocalyptic world covered in snow – essentially, a “Snowball Earth.” As Tetsuo discovered that the world had changed drastically during his absence, he would have to solve the mysteries of why the world froze, what happened to humanity, and if he could still keep his promise to Yukio.

Studio KAI is in charge of producing the TV anime “Snowballs Earth.”

Look forward to more updates.
It will be broadcast on Japanese television systems in 2026.
