God of War Greek Trilogy remake: Release date speculation and what to expect

Sony Santa Monica is working on several projects, including the next installment in the God of War series and remakes of the first three God of War games (the Greek Trilogy).

Released between 2005 and 2010, the first three God of War games were hugely popular and are still considered among the greatest titles for the PlayStation 2 and 3.

So it’s easy to understand why fans are thrilled to experience these classic songs and games on today’s consoles and computers.

When can we expect the remakes of the original God of War games (the Greek Trilogy), and what will they be like? Here’s a breakdown of everything we know.

God of War Greek trilogy remake release date speculation

Sony Santa Monica hasn’t revealed when the remakes of the original God of War games (the Greek Trilogy) will be available, but we’re guessing they’ll likely launch in 2027.

At a PlayStation event in February 2026 called State of Play, TC Carson, the original voice of Kratos, announced that a remake of the classic Greek Trilogy is in development. He also mentioned the project is currently in its early phases.

Look, I know remakes don’t take as long to build as totally new games, but honestly, I don’t think we’re going to see this one released this year. It just feels like they won’t be able to make enough progress in time.

We currently estimate the release will likely be around late 2027, but this is just our guess, so it’s subject to change.

What to expect from the God of War Greek Trilogy remake

As of right now, details about the remake of the Greek Trilogy are scarce – we only know it’s in the very beginning stages of development.

Looking at how Sony Santa Monica handled past remasters – like the God of War Collection from 2009 and the 2015 God of War 3 Remastered – gives us a good idea of what to expect with their current development approach.

Both games were enhanced with improved graphics and a smooth 60 frames per second, and they immediately included all previously released downloadable content.

We anticipate this project will feature completely rebuilt visuals, rather than simply updated ones, resulting in significantly improved graphics. Since it’s a remake, not a remaster, we expect all the visual elements to be created anew with much higher quality.

Ultimately, we’ll need to see how the adaptation turns out. The studio might remove some elements from the original game, or they could add new ones, like improvements inspired by the recent remake.
