As an enthusiastic advocate, I’d like to share some intriguing insights about the visual effects for the DCU film “Superman.” The on-set lead, artist Matthew Eberle, disclosed details of a harrowing sequence that didn’t make it to the final theatrical cut. This omitted scene centered around David Corenswet’s character, Clark Kent / Superman, and his faithful canine companion, Krypto.

Eberle shared on social media that an early version of Superman’s opening scene had a pile of slain abominable snowmen, but it was removed during editing. Originally in this scene, Krypto was seen dragging Superman past several dead abominable snowmen, and Superman told Krypto to stop killing them. Eberle, who was present during filming, posted a behind-the-scenes photo as proof.” (via ComicBook)
It appears that a visual artist’s recent post sheds light on a puzzle concerning merchandise released before Superman’s debut. Back in May, various news outlets and social media platforms hinted at a Superman toy suggesting a creature from the Fortress of Solitude. This toy had what seemed to be white fur and sharp teeth. With the new information, it can be reasonably assumed that this creature was intended to represent an abominable snowman.
It’s worth mentioning that the filmmakers cut a scene involving Krypto from the movie that wasn’t the only one featuring him. Sara Sampaio, who plays Eve Teschmacher, revealed to Jake Hamilton that a scene showing Ultraman hitting Krypto didn’t go down well with test audiences and was removed during editing. Maria Gabriela de Faria, who portrays Angela Spica/the Engineer, expressed her disapproval of any violence towards dogs, stating “It’s not okay to punch a dog.” To clarify, she didn’t punch the dog; instead, the dog had initially attacked her character.
Moreover, a sequence featuring Krypto alongside Edi Gathegi’s character, Michael Holt/Mister Terrific, was unfortunately not included in the final cut.
Superman is playing in theaters now.
