After months of excitement and talk about Starfield, Todd Howard, the creative director at Bethesda, has shared some insights into what players can anticipate. The team is planning to reveal a significant update and new content “soon,” but Howard suggests that if you weren’t enjoying the game previously, this update might not change your opinion.
Todd Howard recently shared that Bethesda is almost ready to reveal details about new content for Starfield. In an interview with Kinda Funny Games (as reported by Kotaku), he said they’ve been working hard on it and are excited to finally start showing players what’s coming. He expressed confidence in the work they’ve done and hinted that announcements are on the way soon.
Regarding hopes that the next update will be a major overhaul – essentially a “Starfield 2.0” – Todd Howard explained that isn’t the case. He said that while they don’t see it as a complete rebuild, players who enjoy Starfield will likely love the changes coming. These updates will be substantial and interconnected, expanding on the game’s universe and features in new ways. This could potentially include the interplanetary travel that fans have discovered hints of in the game’s files.
If you weren’t a fan of Starfield initially, these changes probably won’t alter your opinion. Basically, if the game didn’t click with you before, or you found it dull or unengaging, it likely still won’t.
While waiting for more information, Howard acknowledged it’s tough managing three big game series with a smaller team of around 250 people. Even with The Elder Scrolls 6 – which will be built using the new Creation Engine 3 – on the horizon, Bethesda plans to keep adding to its newest game, Starfield. “We have a lot more Starfield content planned, and we expect to support it for a long time,” Howard said.
Although Howard didn’t say exactly when, the studio is expected to share more information next month. This will likely include details about the upcoming paid expansion, which seems to feature a new playable group and the PS5 version players have been waiting for. We’ll keep you updated, but don’t expect any news about a Nintendo Switch 2 version just yet.
