Being a Star Trek fan is exciting right now! The franchise is celebrating its 60th anniversary, and there’s a new TV show called Starfleet Academy to delight existing fans and welcome newcomers. The comics are also strong, with Star Trek: The Last Starship offering a compelling story set 300 years in the future after a major event called The Burn caused the Federation to fall apart. And now, fans have even more to look forward to – a new series is finally giving one of Star Trek‘s most popular characters a spotlight, three years after the end of the Picard series.
IDW Publishing revealed a new Star Trek comic series on Wednesday, written by Christopher Cantwell and illustrated by Dennis Menheere. Following the conclusion of their previous Star Trek series, this one will finally show fans the adventures of the USS Enterprise-G, captained by Seven of Nine. Set three years after the end of the Picard show, the series promises a large-scale story focused on survival, legacy, and a secret mission led by the beloved character.
Seven of Nine is One of Star Trek’s Best Characters

The new Star Trek series from IDW will follow Captain Seven of Nine as she leads the EnterpriseG on a groundbreaking journey beyond the known four quadrants of the galaxy. They’ll enter a mysterious area of space where time is unstable, sanity is threatened, and a powerful, hidden force plays on fear. This will challenge everything the Federation believes in, forcing them to question if their spirit of exploration will save them… or ultimately prove to be a disastrous error. It’s a thrilling concept, and a fantastic fit for one of Star Trek’s* most compelling characters.
Seven of Nine debuted towards the end of Star Trek: Voyager‘s third season and has become a fan favorite over the years. Originally a Borg drone, she became a valued member of the Voyager crew. Despite being initially rejected from Starfleet due to her Borg history, she spent time with the Fenris Rangers before receiving a commission from Jean-Luc Picard, allowing her to join Starfleet. She eventually rose to become first officer, and then captain, of the USS TitanA, which was later renamed Enterprise. Her journey of overcoming her past and finding acceptance has resonated with fans, and the ending of Star Trek: Picard* hinted at a bigger future for her. Now, a new comic series from IDW seems to be fulfilling that promise.
Seven of Nine and the world of Star Trek are in capable hands with writer Kirsten Cantwell. She’s a dedicated fan and has already proven her skill with the series, having penned the well-received Star Trek: Defiant and Star Trek: Redshirts.
Reflecting on six decades of Star Trek, we’re really celebrating a vision of the future. It’s a hopeful story set against the vastness of space, filled with wonder and possibility,” said Cantwell. “I first encountered Star Trek when I was ten years old, and it changed my life. I was captivated by the imaginative worlds, compelling characters, and stories that explored the challenges of creating community, finding common ground, and upholding important values like peace and understanding. The show beautifully captured the fragility of peace in a diverse galaxy. That’s the true magic of Star Trek – its ability to explore complex ideas in a dazzling and thought-provoking way.”
We’re creating a fresh Star Trek story, aiming for something completely new and optimistic as our characters boldly explore uncharted territory. While Star Trek has a rich history spanning over sixty years, this new series will embrace the best of that legacy while also forging its own path.
If you’re completely new to Star Trek, this is the perfect place to start. It’s a fresh beginning, a genuinely new world with brand new characters. While some may reference past stories, the main focus is on exploring uncharted territory – places Star Trek hasn’t even ventured into before.
Star Trek #1 arrives this September from IDW.
