Disney and Lucasfilm will be replacing two actors in Ahsoka Season 2 for various reasons, but the rest of the cast from Season 1 will return. The show is scheduled to come back in 2026, which many fans are eagerly anticipating. It’s been almost three years since Season 1 premiered in August 2023, making this the longest gap between seasons in Star Wars history, and the longest wait ever for a Disney+ series.
Disney and Lucasfilm reportedly only needed to recast two characters for the second season of Ahsoka. One of these characters is expected to play a major role in the new season’s story, while the importance of the other is still unknown, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Fans were saddened by the passing of Ray Stevenson in 2023. He played Baylan Skoll in the first season and was widely praised for his performance. Rather than retire the character, the show’s creators have decided to recast the role with a new actor.

Rory McCann, known for his role as The Hound in Game of Thrones, is now playing Baylan Skoll, replacing the original actor. This casting felt especially right because McCann and the previous actor were good friends. While a trailer hasn’t been released yet, fans have already gotten a first glimpse of McCann as Baylan Skoll.
Claudia Black, who played Nightsister Klothow in Season 1 of Ahsoka, won’t be back for Season 2, meaning the role will be recast.

Black explained that Disney wouldn’t pay her enough to continue with the show. When filming moved from the US to the UK, she requested a higher salary to cover the increased costs of supporting her family as a single mother while working abroad. Unable to reach an agreement with Disney, she left the role, and the company had to find a new actor.
It wasn’t clear whether Disney and Lucasfilm planned to find a new actress for the Nightsister Klothow in Season 2, or if the character would be removed from the plot. But The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the role was recast when production moved to the U.K., meaning Klothow will still appear in the new season.
As a big fan of Ahsoka, I’m happy to hear that most of the cast from Season 1 is returning! Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, and Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn are all set to reprise their roles, alongside Rosario Dawson, who’s fantastic as Ahsoka Tano. It sounds like everyone except Stevenson and Black will be back, which is great news for continuity!
What Do the Ahsoka Season 2 Recasts Mean?
While it might not seem significant that Disney recast the roles of Baylan Skoll and Nightsister Klothow for the second season of Ahsoka, this suggests those characters will play a major role in the story to come.
The show could have simply explained what happened to Baylan Skoll by referencing his solo journey from Season 1 – he was searching for the powerful Mortis Gods. The fact that Disney and Lucasfilm kept Baylan as a character for Season 2 suggests they had significant plans for him, and removing him would have required substantial rewrites to the story.
Baylan played a key role in the first season, making it likely he’ll continue to be important in the second.
While Baylan Skoll was a central figure in Season 1, Nightsister Klothow was also crucial to the story. Her actions directly enabled Thrawn’s escape from the Peridea galaxy, and the season finale suggested he’ll continue working with the Nightsisters to rebuild the Empire and challenge the New Republic.
Similar to the situation with Baylan, the showrunners of Ahsoka may have decided to keep the character Klothow around for future storylines, and removing her would have meant significant changes to the plot. That’s likely why they recast the role with a different actor.
