Finally, the script for “The Batman Part II” has been finished, hinting that the movie is on track for further development. On a recent episode of “The Box Office Podcast“, insider Umberto Gonzalez shared some tantalizing details about the future of DC Comics cinematic adaptations. Following the strong box office performance of “Superman“, there has been much buzz about when fans can expect to see the DC Universe’s Batman and Wonder Woman alongside Superman. However, before that happens, Robert Pattinson’s Batman will reappear in his Elseworlds timeline. Gonzalez provided an intriguing update on “The Batman Part II“, suggesting that casting decisions will be made shortly.
According to Gonzalez, casting for Robert Pattinson’s Batman will begin this fall. The project is being geared up now, as confirmed by agents. Therefore, it’s highly likely that we’ll see Pattinson’s portrayal of the Dark Knight within the next two years.
Following repeated setbacks during script development by director Matt Reeves, “The Batman Part II” has now achieved a notable achievement – the completion of the screenplay. This long-awaited sequel is slated for release in October 2027, over five years after its predecessor. During this time, DC Studios co-head James Gunn has encouraged fans to remain patient with Reeves.
As Reeves advances with “The Batman Part II,” there’s good news on the horizon for DCU’s debut Batman movie, titled “The Brave and the Bold.” Gunn has confirmed that scripts are being penned not only for “The Brave and the Bold” but also a new “Wonder Woman” film. However, neither project has a fixed release date as of now. It’s rumored that “Wonder Woman” might speed up its production in response to the success of “Superman.
Although The Batman Part II isn’t directly connected to the DC Universe, it belongs under the broader umbrella of DC Studios. This implies that it must adhere to James Gunn’s guidelines, ensuring a finalized script that he approves before filming can commence. If casting for The Batman Part II starts in the fall, it signifies that Gunn has endorsed the script, enabling the project to progress further. Reeves is unlikely to initiate casting if alterations to the screenplay are needed. Essentially, this suggests there will be no additional delays for The Batman Part II and the production should proceed smoothly. Filming can commence once Pattinson completes his role in Dune: Messiah.
It’s highly likely that the main character to play will be the antagonist. There’s a strong possibility that Colin Farrell’s Penguin will appear again in the sequel, but director Matt Reeves hinted that additional characters from Batman’s famous rogues gallery may also make an appearance. There have been many whispers about possible additions like Harvey Dent, Hush, and Clayface. Since Clayface is set to star in his own DCU movie next year, it seems unlikely he’ll be part of this one, but any other character could potentially join the cast. We can only hope for more details on Reeves’ plans in the near future.
