The rumor claimed that Chloe Zhao, who recently directed the film Hamnet, is being considered to write and direct the next Mission: Impossible movie, number nine. According to the post, Tom Cruise has already met with Zhao and they’ve begun discussing ideas for the film’s story, and writing is now in progress. Even though it’s just a rumor, many fans are reacting negatively to the possibility of another Mission: Impossible movie starring Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, voicing their surprise and disappointment online.

Before the recent speculation, most people thought Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning would be the last time Tom Cruise played Ethan Hunt. At the Australian premiere of Dead Reckoning Part One, he told The Sydney Morning Herald he hoped to have a career as long-lasting as Harrison Ford’s, pointing out that Ford was still starring in films like 2023’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny at age 80.
