This week, the Epic Games Store is giving away two free PC games between February 19th and 26th. One of them is a brand new release from 2025! While it originally came out last year without much attention, players who did try it really enjoyed it. The other free game is perfect for fans of massive multiplayer online games.
For the next week, PC gamers with an Epic Games Store account can get two games for free and keep them forever: Stalcraft X: Starter Edition and Return to Ash. Stalcraft X is normally a free-to-play game, but this special Starter Edition includes bonus in-game items you’d usually have to pay for. Return to Ash is a new game scheduled for release in 2025.
Stalcraft X: Starter Edition
Released in 2022 by EXBO, Stalcraft X is an online multiplayer FPS set in a vast, open world. It blends elements of RPGs and survival horror. The developer describes it as the biggest online open-world game set within the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. Players can explore the dangerous, mutated landscape solo or with friends, either searching for valuable artefacts or competing against other players who also hunt for them.
I’ve been checking out Stalcraft X, and it doesn’t have a Metacritic score, so it’s tough to get a solid read on how good it is from the critics. Luckily, people are playing it on Steam, and there are over 15,000 reviews up there! But honestly, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. Only about 68% of players actually recommend it, which isn’t super encouraging, even with that many reviews.
Return to Ash
Serenity Forge developed the adventure game Return to Ash, which was released in 2025. Unlike the other free game available on the Epic Games Store this week, Return to Ash has a very positive 96% rating on Steam, though it’s based on feedback from only 95 users.
This new PC game is a story-focused visual novel where you build relationships and make choices that impact the main character, Ashleigh, and determine how her story unfolds. While it’s currently being given away for free, it’s normally a very affordable game, usually costing just $6, so the savings aren’t significant. It’s a bit like getting a small discount on an already inexpensive game, similar to what you might see with Stalcraft X.
