In a fresh global sneak peek for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, the titular superhero squad prepares for an epic confrontation against the antagonist Galactus. The scenes hint at the Devourer of Worlds appearing on Earth in the alternate reality of Earth-828, seemingly attracted by scientific research conducted by Reed Richards. The Silver Surfer is shown delivering a warning: “Your time is limited, Galactus approaches.” The majority of the trailer showcases the Fantastic Four preparing to protect their home, with The Thing expressing confidence that the team can handle the challenge at hand.
The trailer adopts a solemn mood, perfectly capturing the gravity of a tale where an entire planet is at risk of destruction. It showcases the challenging decisions that brave heroes must make to protect their beloved people. You can watch it here, compliments of the X account Cosmic Marvel in space.

In the comics, it’s clear that Galactus targets Earth primarily because he seeks the young character Franklin Richards. Franklin, one of Marvel’s mightiest beings, possesses an extraordinary ability to generate pocket universes filled with planets. Galactus is interested in harnessing this power for his own purposes, intending to have Franklin create a limitless supply of worlds for him to devour. However, the Fantastic Four refuse to give up Franklin, setting the stage for potential conflict and a significant storyline for Reed Richards in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Since the initial teaser trailer in February, the potential danger of Galactus has been a recurring aspect in the promotional efforts for Fantastic Four: First Steps. However, Marvel has chosen to keep Galactus relatively under wraps in the officially released footage. Instead, they’ve given fans a closer look at his comic-book accurate appearance in merchandise like collectible figurines and popcorn containers. This approach allows them to preserve Ralph Ineson’s performance for the movie premiere while generating excitement about Galactus’ role.
Galactus, a potential standout villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, isn’t necessarily evil, but rather survival-driven. He roams the universe consuming planets to sustain his own existence. If written effectively, he can be a complex and tragic adversary, capable of committing heinous acts. A popular fan theory suggests that Galactus succeeds in destroying Earth in the alternate reality of Earth-828, which is why the Fantastic Four find themselves in Earth-616 for “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Marvel often allows their villains to triumph (as seen with Thanos in “Infinity War”), so it’s plausible that Galactus could prevail.
Following the significant letdown of Galactus in 2007’s “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” (notably reimagining the villain as a cloud), it’s thrilling to see that we’re now getting something much truer to the original comic book material. Kevin Feige has envisioned “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” as an opportunity to finally give these classic characters their due after two unsuccessful attempts at film series earlier on. Based on all indications, “First Steps” appears to be the “Fantastic Four” movie that fans have long been anticipating.
