After the tremendous success of DC Studios’ “Superman”, there have been whispers about them quickly developing a new “Wonder Woman” film. This came as a shock, considering that the studio hasn’t publicly assigned a writer or director yet for this project, even though they’ve confirmed having a screenwriter ready to script the movie. However, James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, has recently addressed rumors about the alleged speedy production of “Wonder Woman”. He hinted that while it is a priority, this doesn’t necessarily mean immediate filming – and there’s a good explanation behind this.
James Gunn indicated that while this project is important, it’s not being rushed. He emphasized that nothing will be produced unless they are confident in the quality of the script. In response to a fan’s query about DC Studios possibly casting an actor with a background in TV shows, he clarified that this isn’t the case. He added that he never considers an actor’s previous work (TV, films, etc.) when casting, but rather focuses on who is best suited for the role. Currently, they are not casting Wonder Woman, and no discussions about it have taken place until a script is completed.
For three years since joining DC Studios, Gunn has been transparent with fans, openly discussing why certain projects, like Sgt. Rock, were abandoned even before production. He’s also been consistent in using his social media to clarify or debunk major rumors. This transparency continues. Last week, it emerged that the success of Superman had prompted DC Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery to expedite the development of a new Wonder Woman film. Interestingly, Gunn confirmed earlier that a new Wonder Woman script was being penned. However, it appears that Gunn and his team are not in agreement with the idea of fast-tracking this movie. It’s important to note that no movie will move forward unless the studio is satisfied with the screenplay.
Although Adria Arjona has been suggested as an excellent choice for Wonder Woman, it appears that the studio hasn’t started actively casting for the role yet. According to James Gunn, they won’t even begin the casting process until a script for the movie is finalized first and foremost. As we’ve learned from previous projects like Sgt. Rock, Gunn emphasizes quality over speed, ensuring that the production of Wonder Woman is top-notch given its successful solo film in recent years. Similarly, as was the case with Superman, a project Gunn worked on for three years.
I’m thrilled to share that the first two “Wonder Woman” films featuring Gal Gadot, skillfully directed by Patty Jenkins, are now ready for streaming on HBO Max. Regrettably, as of now, there’s no announced release date for another “Wonder Woman” movie.
