If you’re looking for a gripping spy thriller to watch this weekend, check out Disney+. They have a fantastic series, and both seasons are currently available for streaming. It’s a great choice alongside other spy favorites like James Bond, whether you prefer watching at home or in theaters.
These two shows have been the most popular in the spy thriller genre recently, and with more seasons of Slow Horses already planned and a new James Bond movie in the works, they’ll likely remain dominant. But if you’re a spy thriller fan looking for something different, one of Disney+’s top shows offers a welcome change of pace.
This Sci-Fi Series Is A Major Franchise At Its Best
The series Andor premiered on Disney+ on September 21, 2022. As a prequel to the popular 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (which earned over $1 billion globally), it’s part of the massive Star Wars franchise. However, Andor is designed to be enjoyable even if you’ve never watched Star Wars before. It leans more into the spy thriller genre than traditional science fiction.
Despite its setting among planets, aliens, and advanced technology, the core of the show Andor is a tense political drama. It follows rebels working in secret to try and dismantle the Empire. Andor stands out from other Star Wars stories because it realistically explores difficult themes like oppressive governments, colonialism, how people become extremists, and the power of misinformation, creating a darker and more believable experience.
I’m completely hooked on Andor! It follows Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, and it’s amazing to watch his transformation. He starts out just trying to survive, but slowly becomes this incredibly skilled and important figure in the rebellion – a real spy, assassin, and leader. Plus, the show is packed with fantastic actors like Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgård, and Ben Mendelsohn, who you might recognize from other great projects.
Why Andor Is The Perfect Star Wars Series To Binge This Weekend
Critics overwhelmingly love Andor, giving it a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences agree with an 89% rating. Though originally released weekly, the show is ideal for binge-watching because each season is broken into multi-episode storylines. This allows viewers to enjoy complete, movie-length experiences by watching three or more episodes at a time.
With two seasons totaling 24 episodes, the Star Wars series Andor delivers a thrilling spy story. It’s a fresh take on the Star Wars universe, specifically designed for fans of espionage, and quickly establishes itself as a standout show. After watching a season in one go, you’ll understand why it’s considered a masterpiece.
