Midsummer Studios, a new game development team formed in May 2024 by the creators of popular games like Sid Meier’s Civilization, XCOM, and The Sims, is closing its doors, according to co-founder and creative director Jake Solomon.
Solomon expressed pride in the studio’s accomplishments, saying, “We created both a studio and a game, and I’m really proud of both.” Before Midsummer Studios closes, he wanted to offer a first look at Burbank, the game the team worked so passionately on.
Burbank, the game the studio was working on, is being called a blend of life simulation games and the movie The Truman Show, but developers say it offers much more than just that combination.
Solomon shared, “I think everyone has stories to tell, and I want people to be able to create and share any characters or worlds they imagine. Burbank makes that possible. When we play, the characters feel incredibly real—something I haven’t felt in a long time. As someone who’s been making games for years, that’s really exciting to me.”
