3 Jujutsu Kaisen Spin-Offs the Series Should Explore After the Sequel Ends

Less than a year after finishing the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, Gege Akutami started a sequel, promising it would be brief. Now, that short sequel, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is almost over. The author has suggested he plans to continue creating manga in the future, giving fans hope for more content from this universe.

The author has a few options for what to do next. They could start a completely new story, or they could build on the world of Jujutsu Kaisen with spin-off series. Here are three ideas for how they could continue the story through spin-offs.

3) Yuji Realizing His Dream

Yuji Itadori, the hero of the original series, was different from typical action heroes. While most want to save the world, Yuji simply wanted to be with loved ones when he passed away. The recent sequel showed that this may not happen, as he ages incredibly slowly. With the main story seemingly ending with the removal of cursed energy, a spin-off showing Yuji finally living a full life and dying peacefully could offer a satisfying conclusion to his story.

Now that we know Yuji might live for centuries, it would be incredibly moving to see a story about his last years spent with friends who age normally. After all he’s been through, he deserves to experience a normal, happy life, and a short series focusing on that would be a perfect way to end his story.

2) The Independent Cursed Corpses Represent the Mastery of Cursed Energy

Cursed energy has many uses, but Masamichi Yaga’s ability to create cursed corpses that acted like living people was particularly remarkable. Panda is a prime example of this. This power – essentially creating life with cursed energy – worried those in charge, and ultimately led to Yaga’s death. If fully developed, this technique could have potentially created a whole population of these cursed corpses.

A spin-off of Jujutsu Kaisen could delve into the idea of cursed corpses, maybe by imagining a scenario where Yaga managed to create a lot of them. Alternatively, it could tell the story of a past society of cursed corpses and their unfortunate end. This spin-off could initially seem lighthearted with the corpses’ cartoonish designs, but then explore darker themes – like a rebellion against humans and sorcerers, their attempts to find a peaceful existence, and ultimately, their destruction.

1) Heina Era

It’s disappointing that the first Jujutsu Kaisen series didn’t show us the Heian Era, especially since it was often hinted at as a time when sorcerers were at their strongest. Many fans hoped for a story arc set in that period to reveal how Jujutsu society began. If the author decides to create another manga, a spin-off exploring the Heian Era would be a perfect choice.

The history of powerful sorcerers like Ryomen Sukuna, Kenjaku, and Tengen remains largely unexplored. A spin-off series focusing on their origins would be a great way to delve into these backstories – showing how Sukuna became a villain, how Kenjaku started planning the Culling Game, and other important events. If Gege Akutami were to create a series set in the Heian era, it would be a natural and welcome addition to the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, and ignoring this rich historical period would be a significant missed opportunity for the manga.
