The family of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups inventor H.B. Reese is tearing its current recipe to pieces.
Brad Reese, the grandson of the original creator of the candy, claims The Hershey Company is misleading customers by secretly changing the ingredients in its classic peanut butter cups, swapping out the traditional milk chocolate and peanut butter with cheaper alternatives.
In a recent LinkedIn post from February 14th, the grandson of H.B. Reese, the creator of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, explained the enduring success of the candy. He wrote to Hershey manager Todd Scott that Reese’s was built on a straightforward and lasting combination: milk chocolate and peanut butter. He emphasized that it wasn’t just a clever flavor or marketing tactic, but a genuine, reliable product that customers have depended on for 100 years.
Brad claims that Hershey, which began making Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups in 1963, has recently switched from real milk chocolate and peanut butter to cheaper substitutes – compound coatings and peanut-butter-flavored creams – in several Reese’s products.
Okay, seriously, it’s like they’re forgetting what makes Reese’s Reese’s! The stuff they’re doing now just doesn’t feel connected to the amazing candy I’ve loved forever, and it’s honestly stressing me out. I’m worried they’re going to ruin everything that’s made Reese’s so special for years – it’s a real threat to the whole legacy, you know?
The 70-year-old, whose grandfather invented Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, explained he wasn’t appealing to people’s fond memories. He was asking Hershey to be honest and consistent with the Reese’s brand, and to make sure their marketing accurately reflects the product customers are getting.
TopMob News contacted Hershey for a statement but has not yet received one. However, a Hershey representative recently confirmed that Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are made with milk chocolate, peanut butter, sugar, salt, and other ingredients, but the ingredients in other Hershey products can differ.
According to a spokesperson, as Reese’s has created more products, they’ve occasionally tweaked the recipes. This allows them to offer new shapes, sizes, and exciting innovations that fans want, all while maintaining the classic, beloved taste of chocolate and peanut butter that makes Reese’s so special.

To be legally sold as milk chocolate in the United States, a product must contain at least 10% cocoa solids, which is a paste made from ground cocoa beans. This is according to the Food and Drug Administration.
To be called milk chocolate, a product needs to have at least 12% milk solids and 3.39% milkfat. Because of these requirements, some companies label their products as “chocolate candy” instead.
Brad wasn’t impressed with Reese’s new products, telling the Associated Press they were simply “Not edible.”
“I used to eat a Reese’s product every day,” he added. “This is very devastating for me.”
Read on to see what celebrities are snacking on…

I’ve really been focusing on healthy snacking lately, so I always make sure to have plenty of fresh fruit and raw nuts around. It’s become a habit to grab those instead of less healthy options between meals, and I feel so much better for it!

I’ve been doing a lot of snacking since I started working from home! Being around the fridge all day definitely makes it harder to resist. I’ve found that slicing up an apple is a good way to hold me over between meals. Plus, everyone in my family enjoys the crisp, satisfying crunch!

I have a pretty unusual snack I love: canned oysters! I know it sounds strange, but I’m really addicted to them. They’re packed with protein, magnesium, and vitamin C, and they’re surprisingly delicious and satisfying. I usually eat them right from the can, but sometimes I like to have them with crackers – the combination of the crunchy cracker and soft oyster is amazing!

“Cheese and crackers.”

“Green apples with peanut butter.”

“Carrots and hummus is always a fave with a handful of raw almonds and/or cashews.”

I always keep a bowl of fruit, like grapes or berries, close by. I prefer to drink homemade green juice, and I add a splash of BODYARMOR Lyte Coconut to give it a little sweetness and flavor without the sugar.

I often snack on a handful of plain roasted almonds, or sourdough toast with cashew butter and banana slices. I also love smoothies made with Greek yogurt, ice, a little spinach, pineapple, milk (currently a coconut cashew oat blend), banana, half an avocado, a couple of dates, and a sprinkle of cinnamon – sometimes with a spoonful of nut butter mixed in.

“Hot Cheetos and fruit with tajin and lemon, yummy!”

“Raw macadamia nuts.”

“Fruit! I can’t think of a more perfect food.”

“Cheese and crackers with lots of cheese.”

“Pretzels and salt & vinegar chips.”

Okay, seriously, avocado with just a little salt is my absolute thing. It’s the perfect treat when I want something amazing but don’t want to actually work for it. And if I’m feeling fancy and have a few extra minutes? Forget about it. Poached egg on top, and just the tiniest drop of Big Red’s hot sauce… honestly, it’s heaven. I could eat it every single day.

We’re not talking about just any apple and peanut butter combination – this is a carefully crafted snack! It starts with thinly sliced Honeycrisp apples. Then, you melt the peanut butter, add a touch of honey, and mix it all together until it’s smooth and caramel-like. This method uses less peanut butter and prevents that frustrating sticky thumb you get from dipping. It’s a surprisingly clever idea, isn’t it?

I really enjoy popcorn, especially the salty flavor! Plus, it’s a light snack, so I don’t feel guilty about eating it.

I have a really unusual snack I’ve been enjoying lately. I melt some salted butter on a flour tortilla and spread Nutella on top. I know it sounds strange, but it’s basically a simpler way to make something like a crêpe, and that’s why I love it!

“Prosciutto and mozzarella cheese is my favorite snack, I have it almost every day.”

Just half an avocado with a little olive oil, lemon juice, and a sprinkle of truffle salt – it’s surprisingly delicious and really hits the spot.

I’d love to pretend I have sophisticated snack preferences, but honestly, I’m a kid at heart and I’m obsessed with Flavor Blasted Goldfish! Haha!

“Apples and peanut butter.”
