As a horror fan, I’m really bummed to hear it’s getting harder to find some of our favorite movies online. It’s frustrating enough when streaming services change what they offer, but now it looks like we’ve got a really short window to watch a sequel to one of the most terrifying films ever made. Apparently, it’s disappearing from streaming soon, and honestly, it’s a bit of a pattern these days – things just come and go with no warning!
When people talk about genuinely frightening movies, The Blair Witch Project always comes up. Its innovative “found footage” style made the film feel incredibly realistic and unsettling, and it’s remained popular for years. Almost 20 years later, a sequel directed by Adam Wingard, simply titled Blair Witch, was released. It follows James, the brother of a character from the original film, as he searches for his sister in the Black Hills Forest with friends. While the sequel has been available to stream on Tubi and Prime Video, it will soon be removed from both platforms at the end of the month.
Blair Witch Is an Honorable Legacy Sequel That Delivers Fresh Scares
Okay, so as a horror fan, I have to be honest: the latest Blair Witch didn’t get the greatest reviews. It only scored a 38% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is way lower than the original’s 86% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating. But that doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s not quite the groundbreaking masterpiece that The Blair Witch Project was, but it’s still a really good, scary movie. And honestly, it’s a much better sequel than Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 – it feels like a real continuation of the story, not some weird meta-experiment.
The new Blair Witch successfully expands on the story of the first film, connecting through the brother of the original character Heather and delving deeper into the strange, time-altering nature of the woods. It updates the classic found-footage style for today’s viewers, using modern tools like drones and headcams to create a more visually engaging and realistic feel. And it’s truly scary! While the original relied on building suspense slowly, this film delivers a faster-paced, more thrilling experience with more visible scares and a focus on jump scares. The final scenes are just as frightening as those in the original movie, making it a great choice for horror fans who enjoy intense, fast-paced thrills that will keep them gripped from beginning to end.
Where to Stream Blair Witch After It Leaves Tubi?
It will soon be harder to watch Blair Witch because it’s leaving both Tubi and Prime Video. While you can still rent or buy it online, it’s currently not available on any other streaming platforms. However, it might become available on a different streaming service again in March.
