In the competitive world of streaming, HBO Max and Disney+ have both followed Netflix’s lead by creating their own exclusive shows and movies to attract viewers. Now, a popular anime originally planned for Warner Bros.’ HBO Max is moving to a rival platform. While Adult Swim is a key part of HBO Max, this new anime, set to premiere this spring, will instead be available on a competitor’s service, marking a significant shift in content distribution.
Get ready for Rooster Fighter! This action-packed and funny series premieres on Toonami (Adult Swim) on March 14th, and will also be available on HBO Max, just like other shows from Cartoon Network. Interestingly, it’ll stream on Hulu in North America and Disney+ everywhere else. New episodes will be added to HBO Max, Hulu, and Disney+ the day after they air on Cartoon Network, giving you lots of ways to watch! Think of it as a mix of One-Punch Man and… well, a rooster. It’s rare to see a brand-new series debut on so many streaming platforms at once.
What is a Rooster Fighter?

I first came across Rooster Fighter when it started as a web comic back in 2020, created by Shu Sakuratani. It’s a really funny series about a rooster who’s surprisingly strong and basically fights off demons to save the world – honestly, he’s as powerful as Saitama from One-Punch Man! Viz Media describes it perfectly: it follows Keiji, a rooster with superhuman strength, as he protects humanity from giant monsters called “Demons.” It’s full of over-the-top action, ridiculous humor, and epic battles, and this one feathered hero definitely steals every scene he’s in.
The first season of Rooster Fighter will have twelve episodes and is being produced by the studios Sanzigen and Sola Entertainment. Sanzigen, founded in 2003, is known for anime like Sakura Wars The Animation, Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers, and the Initial D films. Sola Entertainment, established in 2009, has created series such as Tower of God and The God of High School. Sola also frequently collaborates with Adult Swim, with past projects including Shenmue: The Animation, Ninja Kamui, The Lord of The Rings: The War of The Rohirrim, and Lazarus.
Although Disney+ doesn’t create much original anime content, Hulu has become a significant platform for the medium. A standout series is Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, which will conclude with its fourth part later this year. Hulu has also been the only place to stream popular shows like One-Punch Man and Undead Unluck, among others.
