Beloved Fantasy Series Returns With a Brand New Story After Finale

Please be aware that this article contains spoilers for the Yona of the Dawn manga. Good news for fans: new side stories for Yona of the Dawn are appearing in the latest issue of Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine! The original manga finished its run in December 2025 after 16 years, offering a moving conclusion to Yona and her companions’ adventure. But the story doesn’t end there! A sequel anime has been announced, and these new side stories will show what happens to the characters after the main story ends. These chapters will be collected in a final Volume 48, with the release date still to be announced. Hana to Yume magazine confirmed the return on their official X account, stating that multiple chapters will be included. While the exact number isn’t known, it’s likely to be around three or four, as Volume 48 will also contain 2 chapters from the main story.

Each book in the series generally has 5 or 6 chapters, so the extra stories included won’t be very lengthy. Fans of Yona of the Dawn have a lot to look forward to in 2026! Viz Media announced a 3-in-1 edition of the manga will be released this fall. Plus, with a second season of the anime already confirmed, we might get a sneak peek at it this year. Along with the release of Volume 47, a fanbook was also published, featuring character details and answers to questions from fans by the author, Mizuho.

Yona of the Dawn Needs Side Stories to Resolve The Bittersweet Ending

The story reached a deeply emotional climax when Zeno made a difficult decision to end the centuries-long pain of the Dragon Warriors. When Yona realized her friends were in danger, she bravely put herself at risk to save them, with Hak and Soo-won providing crucial support. With the legendary Dragon Gods gone, the powers and blessings they gave to the Dragon Warriors disappeared as well. This left all the Dragon Warriors as ordinary people, now sharing the same experiences and perspectives as everyone else.

These individuals once struggled with the abilities they possessed, but with their powers gone, they’re each starting fresh. They said goodbye to Yona and her companions, setting off on their own adventures with hopes of reuniting someday. Meanwhile, Yona remains at Hiryuu Castle with Hak, preparing for her upcoming coronation.

Soo-Won chooses to step down as king, realizing he wrongly took the throne and that his actions against King Il were driven by personal feelings. He believes Yona, the true heir, is the best person to lead the kingdom. Although the story doesn’t show Hak and Yona getting married, they plan to do so eventually. Future side stories will explore what happens with the characters after the main story ends, and may reunite them after being apart.
