Incoming Xbox Boss Promises a ‘Renewed Commitment to Console’, But Will Still Publish on PS5

Okay, so things just got really interesting at Xbox. Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond, two of the biggest names over there, are suddenly gone. A new CEO, Asha Sharma, has stepped in to take the lead. It’s a huge shake-up, and as a gamer, I’m definitely curious to see what changes this will bring!

This situation brings up important questions about what’s next for Microsoft’s gaming business, especially since it’s been focusing on releasing games on multiple platforms for the last year and a half.

Currently, games such as Forza Horizon 5 are performing very well on PlayStation 5, and we anticipate other titles, including Halo: Campaign Evolved, will also be released on the platform.

So, what is the ex-CoreAI executive’s stance?

Sharma gave a speech to employees and the public where she carefully balanced trying to please Xbox fans with the need to satisfy her company’s expectations.

She highlights a resurgence for Xbox and a renewed focus on consoles, but also emphasizes that gaming isn’t limited to specific hardware anymore.

Part of her statement reads:

We’re renewing our commitment to our loyal Xbox fans and players – those who have been with us for the past 25 years – and to the developers who create the amazing worlds and experiences enjoyed by players everywhere.

We’re celebrating the history of Xbox and reaffirming our dedication to the platform, beginning with the console that defines us. It’s what connects us to our passionate players and the talented developers who create amazing games for Xbox.

Gaming isn’t tied to just one device anymore – it’s available on PCs, phones, and through the cloud. Xbox should offer a smooth, fast experience for our players, no matter where they play. Our goal is to make it easier for game developers to create games that everyone can enjoy, on any platform, without having to make sacrifices.

Microsoft seems committed to supporting multiple platforms for the foreseeable future. To reinforce this, here’s a statement from CEO Satya Nadella:

Wow, we just hit over 500 million players joining us every month! As a gamer, that’s amazing to see. We’re now one of the biggest game publishers on any platform, and we’re constantly working on new stuff – from the hardware we play on, to the games themselves, and building a great community. Everything we do is for the players and the creators who make the games we love.

A key part of this announcement that people are noticing is Sharma’s experience in artificial intelligence.

However, she firmly states the company won’t prioritize quick gains or fill its platform with low-quality, artificial intelligence-generated content. And she actually did use the word “slop” – that’s a direct quote, not our interpretation.

She points out that games are fundamentally art – made by people and built using the latest technology.

Amen to that, we suppose.
