Fans of giant monsters like King Kong and Godzilla will find plenty to enjoy in the second season of Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The new trailer revealed Titan X, a powerful new threat, and with the season premiering on February 27th, producer Tory Tunnell recently spoke with MovieWeb about the show’s exciting upcoming developments and larger scope.
I was really curious about how the team behind the Monarch series collaborates with the people making the MonsterVerse films. Basically, I wanted to know how everyone – the showrunners, the movie directors, Legendary, and even Toho – share ideas and make sure the stories feel connected, even though they’re being told in different ways. It’s a tough balancing act, apparently, but ultimately rewarding when it works!
As a huge fan of the MonsterVerse, I’m always thrilled to hear about how Legendary and Toho are collaborating. They’re fantastic partners, and it’s clear they’re constantly brainstorming ways to expand the universe and make it feel truly massive. We’re always keeping each other in the loop about what’s happening with each project, making sure everything feels cohesive and builds on what’s already there. It’s interesting that our show takes place before the events of the films – we’re intentionally weaving in little details and hints that could eventually lead into what audiences see on the big screen, and vice versa. It’s a really fun process, trying to make everything connect in a meaningful way.

An Already Massive Universe Expands
After the popular first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Apple TV+ is building on the show’s world with plans for more series. These new shows will feature both familiar and brand-new Titans. Fans have speculated about the identity of the Titan X introduced recently, suggesting it could be Tiamat or even a MonsterVerse take on the Kraken, but those details haven’t been confirmed. What we do know is that the show’s creators have exciting plans for these giant creatures.
For years, “Godzilla” meant cheap monster movies, but the recent MonsterVerse films have changed that. Dedicated fans will be happy to hear that the team at Monarch, led by Tunnell, constantly collaborates with the filmmakers at Legendary and Toho. This ensures that new story elements seamlessly build upon the existing lore, solidifying the franchise as a truly epic and long-lasting monster battle series.
