FromSoftware, the studio behind popular games like Elden Ring, looks set to have a strong presence on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. They currently have two big titles planned for the console: The Duskbloods and Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition. Although exact release dates haven’t been announced, FromSoftware has stated that both games are currently scheduled to launch in 2026.
It’s still unclear which of the two FromSoftware games – Elden Ring or The Duskbloods – will be released on the Switch 2 first. While Elden Ring has been available on other platforms since 2022, making it a likely candidate, the delay of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition now opens the door for The Duskbloods to potentially arrive on the Switch 2 first, which wouldn’t be a bad thing.
The Duskbloods Could Be Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 Before Elden Ring
During the April 2025 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced that The Duskbloods would be a game exclusive to the new Nintendo Switch 2. They also revealed that Elden Ring would be coming to the Switch 2 as Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition. Initially, Tarnished Edition was planned for release in 2025, and The Duskbloods for 2026. However, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition was pushed back from its original 2025 release date in October.

Now that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition won’t be released until after 2025, The Duskbloods has a chance to become the next FromSoftware game on the Switch 2. The Duskbloods will be exclusive to the Switch 2, giving Nintendo players a special chance to enjoy its unique player-versus-player-versus-environment combat with online multiplayer. While it might not be the ultimate FromSoftware experience for new Switch owners, having both Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition and The Duskbloods should offer Nintendo fans a fantastic combination of games.
For Nintendo fans eager to try a FromSoftware game, Dark Souls Remastered is currently available on Nintendo Switch and will also be playable on the new Switch 2. This is a great way to experience the series before upcoming titles like The Duskbloods and Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition are released.
The Duskblood’s Release Date May Have Been Leaked
Fans might not have to wait much longer for The Duskbloods. A potential release date surfaced recently when the game appeared on the Australian Nintendo eShop. The Finnish website Konsolinet briefly listed the game for release on March 27th before reverting to a placeholder date. While these listings could be mistakes, speculation about a new Nintendo Direct presentation at the end of February suggests we might soon hear official news about The Duskbloods, and possibly even an update on the release of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition.
Elden Ring Doesn’t Need to Rush to the Switch 2
It’s a little unusual that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is coming out after The Duskbloods, particularly since it was initially scheduled for 2025. However, the delay might be a good thing. Players who tested the game on the Switch 2 reported significant performance problems. It seems likely the delay was to fix these issues, and having The Duskbloods available gives players something to enjoy while they wait.
Some major game releases on other platforms haven’t had smooth launches on the Switch 2. For example, Borderlands 4 had its Switch 2 release postponed with no new date announced.
Even on Other Consoles, Elden Ring Has Notorious Performance Issues
Honestly, the performance problems with Elden Ring on the Switch 2 don’t totally shock me. I remember when it first came out, even high-end PCs struggled to run it smoothly, and it couldn’t even consistently hit 60fps on the PS5 and Xbox Series X. That rocky start actually led to a ‘Mixed’ review score on Steam, which was weird considering how much everyone else loved it. They’ve patched a lot of that stuff on other platforms now, so it makes sense that FromSoftware wants to make absolutely sure it runs great on the Switch 2 from the beginning. They probably don’t want a repeat of that initial launch mess!
The Duskbloods Could Keep FromSoftware Fans Occupied Until Elden Ring’s Switch 2 Port is Ready
If The Duskbloods launches as early as March 27th, it could serve as a trial run for Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on the Nintendo Switch 2. Releasing a new game like The Duskbloods will help FromSoftware gauge how their soulslike games perform on the new console, which will be valuable when they eventually release Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition. If The Duskbloods doesn’t attract a large audience, FromSoftware still has the popular Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition to fall back on while they continue to improve performance on the Switch 2.
The order of release for these two games is important. If The Duskbloods becomes a popular exclusive title for the new Nintendo Switch 2, it would give FromSoftware more time to perfect the port of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition. However, if Elden Ring is released quickly and doesn’t perform well on the Switch 2, it could negatively impact how players view The Duskbloods, a brand new game. Because The Duskbloods is being built specifically for the Switch 2’s capabilities, it has a higher chance of running well and making a strong first impression if it comes out before Elden Ring.
