Jujutsu Kaisen’s Sequel Is Setting Up a Tragic Ending For Yuji

Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, which continues the original story, is nearing its end, and things are taking a tragic turn for the main character. Set 68 years after the Culling Game, most of Satoru Gojo’s students are now either deceased or elderly. However, Yuji is different – he stopped aging after consuming the Death Paintings. This has resulted in a heartbreaking fate: he’s forced to watch everyone he loves grow old and die while he remains unchanged, leaving him incredibly lonely.

It was so painful for him to even look at his friends that he cut them all off and abandoned the world of Jujutsu. During the climactic fight between Yuka Okkotsu and Dabura Kabura, he tried to remain hidden, but was discovered. Afterward, he teamed up with Maru, hoping to build a world free from curses, a goal that would require them to commit a terrible act. Despite already suffering through decades of loneliness, Yuji still faces another three hundred years of isolation.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Reveals How Long Yuji Is Going to Live

Yuji played a crucial part in the story of Modulo by explaining to Maru what would happen if cursed energy was removed from humans – namely, that new curses would still appear. He believed the only solution was for humans, Simurians, and curses to find a way to live together, though the necessary ritual would destroy all existing cursed spirits and kalyans, including the oldest one originating from Simuria. After Maru ends the fight between Yuka and Dabura in Chapter 23, Yuji and Maru go their separate ways to pursue their individual destinies.

Once the ritual is finished, Yuji will be responsible for protecting the world and is prepared to accept the consequences of interfering with people’s souls. This appearance is likely his last, reinforcing the author’s decision not to give the main character a reprieve. The story is nearing its conclusion, probably ending in March, and it seems focused on the fallout from Maru’s actions. It’s uncertain whether Yuji will ultimately receive a satisfying conclusion to his story.
