Bear in mind: this is Paddington‘s first time at an award show.
Despite any personal nerves, the popular actor appeared completely confident when he went on stage at the 2026 British Academy Film and Television Arts Awards – shown on TopMob and hosted by Alan Cumming – to announce the winner of the Children’s & Family Film award.
Oh, it was just the sweetest thing! There he was, Paddington, looking absolutely dapper in his iconic blue coat – you can always spot him in it, just like all the other stars! He was so charming, confessing he was just as surprised to be up on stage as we were to see him. He even said, in the most adorable way, that he doesn’t often speak in front of crowds, and well, there were a lot of us!
He remembered his Aunt Lucy telling him to always confront his fears. But, he added with a laugh, that didn’t apply to snakes. “If it’s a snake,” he said, “you just back away—slowly.”
Paddington excitedly announced that his foster mother, Mrs. Brown, had told him his appearance on stage was a first for the award show. “I’m the first bear ever to present an award!” he shared, then jokingly added, “And also the first presenter to spill marmalade all over a BAFTA. My apologies!”
And while he had a plan to “lick it off,” he quipped, “Apparently that’s not very good manners.”
The award for Best Children’s & Family Film went to Boong, a 2024 Indian drama. It beat out other nominees including Arco, Lilo & Stitch, and Zootropolis 2. You can find a full list of winners here.

Immediately after Paddington’s performance, social media was filled with enthusiastic fans sharing their support and excitement.
One viewer commented on BAFTA’s Instagram, saying the video was “healing,” while another called it “really cool and heartwarming.”
Another fan noted just how poignant the bear’s moment of bravery truly was.
They praised the presentation, saying it wonderfully sparked children’s imaginations. They also noted that moments of genuine wonder are rare, and they were pleased BAFTA supported this project.
“Also,” they added, “always have a marmalade sandwich in case of emergencies.”
