A remake of the horror film American Psycho has been in development for two years, but it’s currently stalled. Director Luca Guadagnino and Lionsgate are having trouble finding an actor to play the lead role. Author Bret Easton Ellis shared on his podcast that several well-known actors have declined the part, possibly because they don’t want to be compared to Christian Bale‘s iconic performance.

The role demanded incredible versatility – one moment he’d be intensely focused during a business meeting, the next cheerfully talking about music while preparing a crime scene, and then running naked with a chainsaw. Finding the right actor for this role is tough. It demands a wide range of skills, and whoever takes it will inevitably be compared to a very famous previous performance.
