Sony is releasing a test version of a new software update for the PS5 in late February 2026. Before fully launching updates for both the PS5 and the upcoming PS5 Pro, Sony lets a select group of players try them out first through the PS5 beta program. This allows them to gather feedback and fix any issues before the updates are released to everyone else. Recently, a new preview update was made available, adding a single new feature to the console.
A new, though small, update for the PS5 is available to download this week. It mainly focuses on improving the system’s stability and how easily it’s used. The update also adds support for the latest Unicode 17.0 emojis, letting you use them in messages with friends. PlayStation expects to release this update to all PS5 owners in March.
Here are the full patch notes for this new PS5 update:
- Unicode 17.0 emojis are now supported. You can use them in your messages.
- We’ve improved messages and usability on some screens.
- We’ve improved system software performance and stability.
PS5 Pro Owners Are Still Waiting for a Big Update

It’s good that Sony is still making improvements to the PS5, but bigger updates are expected soon. Owners of the PS5 Pro can anticipate a new update later this year that will enhance the platform’s PSSR technology. Sony previously announced this PSSR improvement, but hasn’t yet revealed when the update will be released.
Reports suggested a significant update for the PS5 Pro would arrive in early 2026. While Sony hasn’t officially confirmed this, an announcement could be coming soon. As soon as we have more information, we’ll share it with you here on ComicBook.
