Why Sterling K. Brown Feels “Safer” With His Sons on Social Media

Sterling K. Brown wants his kids to make waves on social media. 

Dax Shepard recently explained that he avoids posting pictures of his daughters, Lincoln and Delta, on social media so they can have some privacy, given their parents’ fame. However, Milo Ventimiglia, known for his role in This is Us, shared a different perspective – he chooses to post photos of his children for a contrasting reason.

During a recent appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast, 49-year-old Sterling explained his reasoning for posting photos of his Black children on social media. He stated, “Your children are obviously White… I feel like the more I put them on social, the safer they are.”

He explained that he wants to ensure Black boys are safe, even when they have opportunities to meet celebrities or gain access to certain spaces. His priority is getting them home safely.

Kurt Sterling, who shares 14-year-old Andrew and 10-year-old Amaré with his wife, Ryan Michelle Bathe, says they consider age and maturity when setting social media boundaries for their sons. However, the reality TV star admits there are limits to how much he’s comfortable with when it comes to raising children in the public eye.

I have a rule that when I’m out with Ryan and our friends, we don’t take any pictures,” he said. “They deserve to enjoy a normal night out, and it’s important to me that they have that time. Just because Ryan and I are often in the public eye doesn’t mean they should get any less of our attention when we’re together.”

But even though Sterling has made a name for himself in the acting world, at home he’s just dad.

Sterling said his family has gotten used to seeing him on billboards, but he still finds it amazing. “It’s cool for me,” he told TopMob News in an interview on February 20th.

You know, as a lifestyle expert, I’ve noticed a frustrating trend – people aren’t truly seeing things anymore. They’ll quickly glance at a photo on their phone and say they’ve ‘seen it,’ but they’re not really experiencing it. It’s like they’re going through the motions. Honestly, it makes me want to withdraw and just keep things to myself. It’s a little disheartening when a simple moment isn’t fully appreciated.

The actor from Waves shared that his youngest son considers him “a little bit cool,” but his older son, Andrew, isn’t so easily impressed.

Sterling said the fourteen-year-old knows he’s cool, but would never say it or act like it.

Sterling chuckled, explaining that while the person acknowledges him as a decent person – essentially saying, ‘He’s okay’ – he also knows this person will always be critical, and he strangely values that honesty.
