Jack Hughes Details Moment His Teeth Got Knocked Out at Olympics 2026

Jack Hughes made history at the 2026 Olympics, and he didn’t need teeth to do it.

The American hockey player who scored the goal that won the game against Canada described his thoughts after losing his teeth during the February 22nd match.

Oh my gosh, you guys, it was insane! When I first went down, all I could think about was trying to get them to call a penalty. But then… then I looked down and just saw my own teeth on the ice! It was the craziest thing, honestly. I didn’t even really register anything else for a second, just…teeth. I was just so focused on that, it was wild!

He remembered thinking, ‘Oh no, not again.’ He knew the previous time this happened, it hadn’t been a good experience.

Losing teeth is common in hockey. So, when New Jersey Devil Jack Hughes had at least three teeth knocked out by a high stick from Canadian forward Sam Bennett, he didn’t seem overly bothered.

He explained to NBC Chicago that losing teeth in hockey doesn’t even factor into a player’s decision about whether to continue playing – it’s just assumed they’ll keep going. He acknowledged this might sound strange to people outside the sport, as it’s a different mindset than in most professions.

However, frustration did eventually set in.

He said he’d been feeling around his mouth and was upset to discover he’d lost his teeth, but accepted that there was nothing he could do about it now.

As for whether he plans to get the teeth repaired anytime soon?

“I’m gonna fix these things,” he said. “I want my good smile back.”

He’s understandably thrilled right now. His overtime goal secured Team USA’s first gold medal since the famous 1980 team – nicknamed the “Miracle on Ice” – beat the Soviet Union.

After the game, Jack shared how much this moment meant to him and the country. He expressed his love for the USA and his teammates, calling the team’s bond incredible. He also highlighted the strong support they receive from former players and proudly stated how good it felt to be an American.
