Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s Daniel Vavra Steps Down to Make Movie

I was really surprised to hear that Daniel Vavra, the guy who led the creative side of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, is leaving Warhorse Studios! Apparently, he’s stepping down to focus on turning his game into a movie, which is super exciting. I’m definitely curious to see how that turns out!

According to Czech news site CzechCrunch (as shared on ResetEra by GodGraviel, and translated from the original Czech article), the creator of Kingdom Come: Deliverance is leaving his position to allow for a film or TV adaptation of the game to be made.

Martin Frývaldský, CEO of Warhorse Studios, revealed to CzechCrunch that he and Daniel Vavra have been considering expanding the Kingdom Come brand beyond video games for a while. They’ve explored options like comics, concerts, and tourism, but are particularly interested in developing a film project.

It’s not entirely clear if Václav Vavra has left Warhorse Studios. While Frývaldský says Vavra is still with the company, he also notes that employees don’t see him in the office regularly. The translation may also be making the situation confusing.

Later in the CzechCrunch interview, Frývaldský described Vavra as a “transmedia director” for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, suggesting his role at Warhorse is now more flexible, though he remains closely connected to the company.

It seems Vavra chose to leave the company. According to Frývaldský, the creative director felt it was time for a new challenge, especially after successfully launching three globally popular games and wanting to explore other opportunities.

Frývaldský hasn’t revealed if the Kingdom Come: Deliverance movie will adapt the game’s story or create something entirely new. However, he confirmed that discussions are in progress, suggesting we’ll likely get more details about Vavra’s first film project soon.

The reason Warhorse and Vavra are interested in a Kingdom Come movie is clear when you look at how well the games have sold. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has already sold five million copies, and the original game has reportedly sold around ten million.

As a huge gaming fan, I’m really excited to see so many video game adaptations in the works! Just in the last year, we’ve gotten news about movies based on games like Helldivers, Call of Duty, and even the creepy psychological horror game, The Medium from Bloober Team. It feels like a great time to be a gamer and a moviegoer!
