It’s safe to say DC Comics’ Absolute Universe has been a big hit. Over the past year and a half, fans have embraced this darker, fresh take on the DC Universe and its reimagined versions of iconic heroes like Wonder Woman and Batman. DC has been carefully building this new world, gradually introducing its heroes. Now, we’ve reached a point where the Absolute Universe essentially has a complete Justice League lineup – although a group of extremely powerful villains are also calling themselves ‘Absolute’.
Several Justice League heroes have first appeared in the Absolute Universe, and because this series is so well-liked, it’s tempting to compare them. But what’s the best way to do that – by looking at their new gear or their overall strength? I think it makes more sense to rank them based on how heroic they are, considering the Absolute Universe focuses on heroes overcoming greater obstacles. Keep reading to see how the heroes of the Absolute Universe stack up!
9. Hawkman

Hawkman’s new look is impressive, but he’s far from a true hero. Despite claiming to be on the side of good, he repeatedly aligns himself with the wrong people in this version of the DC Universe. Back in the 1950s, Carter betrayed his fellow superheroes by informing on them, and currently, he follows the orders of the Justice League – who, in this universe, are secretly a group of villains. It’s unclear if he can be saved, but he’s about as unheroic as someone can get.
8. Zatanna

Many fans will likely disagree with Zatanna being ranked this low, but it’s not due to a lack of power – she’s incredibly powerful. The issue is her recent alignment with Veronica Cale and the Absolute Universe Suicide Squad. She even used her magic to effectively neutralize Wonder Woman. While Zatanna appears to have left the Squad now, it’s still uncertain whether she’ll ultimately be an ally or an enemy.
7. Green Arrow

Oliver Queen earns a spot on this list mainly for his good intentions. In this alternate universe, he was very similar to the main version, enjoying a wealthy and privileged life. Thankfully, he was just as dedicated to doing the right thing and used his money to become the Green Arrow. Sadly, powerful figures in his world sent Hawkman to stop him before he could truly make a difference. His heroic career was cut short, but it’s admirable that he even tried.
6. Green Lantern

Jo Mullein is the only Green Lantern in her world, and she’s still figuring things out. After encountering Abin Sur, she inherited his power and found herself caught in a massive cosmic conflict. While a natural fighter and fiercely protective of her friends, Jo hasn’t had much chance to be a traditional superhero because she’s constantly on the run. However, she has the potential to become a truly great hero in the Absolute Universe.
5. Flash

Like many heroes starting out, Absolute Flash is learning to manage his newfound abilities and a completely changed life. After an accident gave young Wally West super speed, he’s been trying to evade Project Olympus – the secret government program that caused his powers. While Wally has occasionally intervened to help towns facing threats like Heatwave, he tends to respond to problems as they arise rather than preventing them. However, I believe he’ll continue to improve and become more effective with experience.
4. The Martian

I’m a huge fan of the Martian! He’s basically the spirit of Martian Manhunter, J’onn J’onzz, but existing as this incredible, unseen force. He latched onto FBI agent John Jones and ever since, he’s been pushing John to help him hunt down a dangerous White Martian – this psychic being is causing real problems across the universe. Nobody else can see him, but trust me, this Martian is a powerhouse for good. He just wants to use his abilities to stop all the pain and chaos his counterpart is causing throughout the Absolute Universe.
3. Batman

As a huge Batman fan, I always loved the idea of him being this imposing, almost terrifying figure, and this version really leans into that physicality – he’s massive! Like always, Bruce Wayne tries to work from the shadows, quietly taking down the corrupt people ruining Gotham. But when Bane showed up, everything changed. Bruce actually challenged Bane to a fight, right out in the open, and unbelievably, Batman won! It totally turned public opinion. Now, he’s seen as a hero, a champion of the people, and honestly, it feels really weird to Bruce. He’s used to being a creature of the night, not a public icon, and it throws him for a loop.
2. Superman

This Superman faced a difficult beginning. He witnessed the destruction of his home planet, Krypton, and was separated from his family. After landing on Earth, he was relentlessly pursued by the Lazarus Corporation, which forced him to live in hiding while secretly helping others. However, events eventually pushed him to confront Lazarus and its leader, Ra’s al Ghul. Thankfully, his victory allowed him to emerge as a public hero and finally fulfill his destiny.
1. Wonder Woman

For me, Wonder Woman is the ultimate hero in the Absolute Universe. I first saw her in action when Gateway City was under attack by this huge monster, the Tetracide, and she was incredible! She didn’t just fight bravely, she really connected with everyone – people were amazed by her skills and how much she cared. Ever since then, she’s become even more popular, and it’s easy to see why. Whenever there’s a problem anywhere, Wonder Woman is right there, always putting others first. Honestly, if you’re looking for a true superhero in the Absolute Universe, it’s definitely her.
