Apple TV+’s new series, The Last Thing He Told Me, has quickly become a hit since its surprise release. Based on the popular novel by Laura Dave, also the author of The Divorce Party, the show is a suspenseful psychological thriller.
I’ve been so hooked on these psychological thrillers lately! It all started when Peacock’s All Her Fault became a huge success, and now everyone’s jumping on the bandwagon. I was really surprised to see Apple TV get involved, but even more shocked when Netflix’s version of His & Hers actually knocked Stranger Things off the number one spot! And then 56 Days on Prime Video did the same – it’s amazing how popular this genre has become.

Jennifer Garner stars as Hannah Hall in The Last Thing He Told Me, a fast-paced mystery about a woman searching for her husband after he suddenly goes missing. As Hannah investigates, she forms a bond with her stepdaughter, Bailey, but isn’t sure if she can truly trust her, adding another layer of suspense to the story.
Aisha Tyler stars as Hannah’s close friend and a journalist who assists in the search for her missing husband. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, John Harlan Kim, and David Morse also appear in supporting roles. The first season of The Last Thing He Told Me, which premiered in 2023, received a variety of reactions from critics and covered the complete storyline of the original book.

Even though reviews for the first season of The Last Thing He Told Me were mixed, a second season began filming in February 2026. The new season moves beyond the plot of the original book and introduces an expanded storyline. Critics weren’t impressed with the initial release, with Pajiba describing the show as predictable and lacking atmosphere.
Brian Tallerico from RogerEbert.com described the show as “dry” and “dull.” However, not everyone agreed. Mae Abdulbaki at ScreenRant praised the show’s “strong performances” and felt it effectively used plot twists throughout the first season.
The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2’s Release Schedule
With psychological thrillers being so popular on streaming services right now, most viewers seemed to enjoy The Last Thing He Told Me. The show’s second season started strong, quickly becoming one of the most-watched programs on Apple TV, which suggests it has a promising future.
Season 2 of The Last Thing He Told Me started on February 20th and will release a new episode each Friday, with the final episode arriving on April 10th. This season, consisting of eight episodes, will be more unpredictable than the first, as it’s not based on a book or other existing story.
This development could completely change the direction of the mystery thriller. Whether season 2 of The Last Thing He Told Me can overcome the mixed reactions to the first season and live up to expectations remains to be seen.
