A recently released Amazon video game is already being discontinued, just months after its launch. Amazon has faced challenges since expanding into game publishing, with titles like New World and Crucible previously shutting down, and Throne and Liberty struggling to gain traction. Now, another Amazon game, released in 2025, is also set to be discontinued, adding to the list of unsuccessful projects.
Amazon announced this week that it will shut down the cooperative platformer King of Meat in just over a month. The game, developed by Glowmade and released in October 2025, allowed players to build and share their own levels. While players who tried King of Meat generally enjoyed it, it didn’t attract a large enough audience. As a result, Amazon will end support for the game in early April and will provide refunds to purchasers.
I’m really bummed to hear that King of Meat is shutting down. Amazon announced that even though Glowmade put a ton of creative effort and new ideas into the game, it just didn’t get the player base it needed. Because of that, they’ve decided to stop supporting it, and the servers will be going offline on April 9, 2026. The good news is we still have until then to play, and they’re giving everyone who bought the game a full refund through whatever platform they used. It’s sad to see it go, but I’ll definitely be making the most of the time we have left with the other Contenders!
Although it’s sad to see it go, the decision to discontinue King of Meat isn’t unexpected. The game never attracted a large audience, peaking at only 320 players on Steam. It’s likely player numbers were similarly low on other platforms. Instead of continuing to support a game with so few players, Amazon has chosen to end development.
Amazon is expected to perform well in 2026, largely thanks to the release of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a remake of the classic Tomb Raider game. A brand new Tomb Raider title, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, is planned for 2027. If these games are popular with players, Amazon is likely to see increased success in the gaming world.
