A bright vocal talent has fallen silent far too soon.
Nineteen-year-old Nicole Valeria Vargas Gómez, a contestant on the fourth season of Colombia’s The Voice Kids in 2019, tragically died after being hit by a vehicle in Quindío. The driver did not remain at the scene.
According to local police reports, a vehicle hit two people as they were crossing the street, tragically killing them both. One of the victims was identified as 40-year-old William Andrew Paipa. Witnesses say the impact threw both victims into the air.
On February 24th, authorities reported that a vehicle hit two pedestrians near the El Solar restaurant. The individuals involved have been identified as William Andres Paipa and Nicole Valeria Vargas Gómez, according to a statement to Unilad.
After that terrible crash, I’ve been following the news closely, and it seems investigators are still looking for the car that was involved. It’s just heartbreaking, and I really hope they find it soon.
While competing on the singing show, Gómez shared that her earliest musical memories were of her grandmother singing to her as a baby. She later found her own talent for music in school, though it happened unexpectedly.
After her blind audition, she shared a funny story about getting locked in a school bathroom. Her teacher was concerned when she didn’t show up, so she went to look for her. Instead of being upset, the singer started practicing, and her teacher had to check each bathroom stall to find her by listening for the sound of her voice.

Gómez shared that she developed a passion for traditional Colombian music like pasillo and bambuco, alongside a love for hip-hop dance. She described her musical tastes as very diverse, saying she often switches between completely different styles.
Following her appearance on the reality show, Gómez enrolled in business administration studies at the University of Quindío. While there, she also joined the university’s choir.

The university shared that she was a dedicated and gifted artist who impacted everyone around her, both as a student and performer. In a statement released on February 22th, they noted her discipline, sensitivity, and love for the arts, adding that she brought light to any room with her voice and presence. They said they are deeply saddened to say goodbye to such an exemplary person.
