He’s always been a top-tier villain – I first encountered him through the Fantastic Four – and he’s become such a huge part of Marvel’s history. We’ve seen him pop up in games, cartoons, and even a few movies over the years, but honestly, his best stories have always been in the comics. He’s such a complex character, and there have been so many great comic arcs where he felt like the main hero, even while being the bad guy!

For decades, fans have enjoyed incredible stories that demonstrate just how central Doctor Doom is to the Marvel Universe. The character has evolved significantly and appeared in many of the most popular comic books ever published. These seven Doctor Doom stories represent the very best, and are essential reading for anyone wanting to fully understand him before seeing Avengers: Doomsday.

7) Infamous Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr., best known as Iron Man, is set to portray Doom in a future project.
