Seth Meyers is just a man, standing in front of cameras, asking to be properly identified by fans.
The late-night talk show host recently shared stories about his fast-paced trip to the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics, including a funny encounter where someone mistook him for actor Hugh Grant.
On the February 23rd episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, Seth shared that while he was out and about, people from the US, Canada, and several Scandinavian countries kept stopping him to say hello and ask for photos.
The 52-year-old playfully explained that he chose to sit with the general audience to watch the U.S. women’s hockey team win gold, saying he hadn’t been invited to the VIP box. He also happily chatted with fans, adding with a smile, “I’m a man of the people, and I really enjoy talking to everyone.”
When it came to a specific person, Seth’s fame didn’t seem to carry as much weight as Hugh’s—though people initially had to confirm he wasn’t actually the actor from Notting Hill.
You won’t believe this one! I was recently mistaken for Hugh Grant – yes, the Hugh Grant! – which is always a bit of a laugh. I actually had to pull up a photo of me interviewing him to prove it wasn’t him! And you know what the guy said after seeing the picture? He exclaimed he wished he’d recognized me and would have loved a photo with Hugh Grant instead. It just goes to show, sometimes people see what they want to see, doesn’t it?

Seth has interviewed Hugh Grant, the star of Love Actually, on his show multiple times, most recently in November 2024. The confusion about their resemblance isn’t surprising, as they’ve previously joked about looking alike back in the 90s.
I was so amused to hear about another funny experience Seth had while in Italy! He mentioned that a lot of people there didn’t recognize him, which led to some pretty awkward, but hilarious, moments. It’s funny to imagine, considering how famous he is from Saturday Night Live!
He explained on his show that he noticed people seemed to recognize him, which was strange. He described instances where strangers would approach him and ask what he was famous for, or simply ask, ‘Who are you?’
You know, it’s funny. Whenever I tell people I meet from Italy that I have a TV show, they don’t really care about the show itself! They immediately ask to take a picture with me. And honestly, it always throws me off – I’m always thinking, ‘Please, don’t treat me like some celebrity!’ It’s just a little awkward, you know?
Putting the humor to the side, the TV host was thrilled with his experience at the Olympics and really complimented the people of Milan for hosting such a fantastic event.
