5 DC/Looney Tunes Crossovers That Actually Happened

As a lifelong fan of both DC Comics and classic animation, I have to say there was a magical moment a few years back. Back in early 2017, DC brilliantly combined its universe with the world of Hanna-Barbera, creating some fantastic one-off stories that paired characters like Space Ghost with DC’s heroes and villains. It was such a hit, they did it again that summer, but this time with another iconic cartoon group. For the first time since that classic Superman & Bugs Bunny team-up, the DC Universe and the Looney Tunes crew collided, and it was a joy to behold.

This series brought together all the classic Looney Tunes characters in a fun experiment! Each special featured two stories: a main crossover adventure (though things always got a little wacky with this crew!) and a shorter, more traditional cartoon. In total, DC Comics fans enjoyed 12 crossover stories, and you might be curious about which ones are the most enjoyable. While they all have their charm, these 5 crossovers really stand out as the best of this unusual and memorable collaboration.

5. Joker/Daffy Duck

What brings Daffy Duck and the Joker together? After a frustrating experience with ACME, Daffy lands in Gotham and unexpectedly meets the Joker. To Daffy’s surprise, the Joker sees potential in him and hires him as a sidekick, which Daffy initially enjoys. However, when Daffy realizes just how dangerous the Joker is, he starts hilariously undermining his evil schemes. It’s an unlikely pairing, but the chaotic energy of Daffy and the Joker actually creates a surprisingly funny dynamic, as they bounce well off each other.

4. Wonder Woman/Tasmanian Devil

Who could handle the wild Taz better than Wonder Woman? Diana first encountered the Tasmanian Devil when she was a young warrior, eager to prove her skills. Even though Taz is as chaotic and ravenous as ever, Diana manages to calm him with kindness and empathy. Surprisingly, they even become allies in the current DC Universe when Circe attacks Paradise Island. It’s an unexpected pairing, but this special really pulls it off!

3. Black Canary and Catwoman/Tweety and Sylvester

Gail Simone delivers a hilarious and inventive story that brilliantly blends superhero action with classic cartoon humor. When Sylvester and Tweety magically appear in Gotham City, they cross paths with Catwoman and Black Canary, becoming entangled in a bizarre war between cats and birds. Fueled by powerful witches, the losing side faces total annihilation – even heroes with feline or avian themes! The story gets increasingly outrageous and funny as it unfolds, making it a truly unique and entertaining read.

2. Lex Luthor/Porky Pig

Mark Russell consistently delivers sharp and funny satire, and this special is no exception. It features a ridiculous story where Porky Pig is ruined by a cryptocurrency hack, only to be offered a lifeline by the unlikely figure of Lex Luthor. Of course, Luthor has a hidden agenda – he’s using Porky as a scapegoat for one of his schemes. While the story touches on serious themes about economic consequences and past mistakes, Russell manages to make it incredibly humorous.

1. Batman/Elmer Fudd

Let’s be clear: the team-up between Elmer Fudd and Batman is easily the best of these crossovers. Written by Tom King, who was writing Batman at the time, and illustrated by Lee Weeks, it feels like a truly special release. What makes it so funny is Elmer Fudd narrating with his classic way of speaking. He’s hunting someone, and that someone is Batman! It’s no surprise this story is so well-regarded. Whether you’re a fan of Tom King’s work or not, it’s a really great story and makes you hope DC tries another collaboration with the Looney Tunes characters.
