Season three of the hit Netflix series, The Night Agent, is now available, and it’s performing much better than previous seasons.
Netflix added another success to its growing list of popular shows with The Night Agent, starring Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland. Based on the book by Matthew Quirk, the thrilling series is similar to shows like Reacher and quickly became one of the most-watched titles on the platform, climbing from number six to number ten in viewership after its debut.
The first season of the show about Metro DC hero Peter Sutherland, ‘The Night Agent,’ quickly gained popularity with 20 million viewers. However, viewership dropped significantly to 8 million by the third season. While it’s common for shows to lose viewers between seasons – the second season had fewer than the first – the decrease in this case has been particularly noticeable.
Netflix usually doesn’t heavily advertise its shows, preferring to promote them through its recommendation system. With so many series competing for viewers’ attention in today’s busy world, it’s understandable that the quiet return of The Night Agent might have slipped under the radar.
The show’s viewership dropped significantly after the second season ended, possibly because of a major plot point. The season finale featured the departure of Rose Larkin, a key character and the love interest of the main character, Peter Sutherland. Fans who were invested in their relationship may have decided to stop watching after her exit.
The show’s second season saw a noticeable decline in both quality and how much viewers enjoyed it, with the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes falling from 78% to 39%. However, despite having fewer viewers overall, season 3 of The Night Agent appears to have pleased those who did watch, bringing the audience score back up to the level of the first season.
Although it came in second place in viewership during its first week, it wasn’t far behind the popular Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, and it actually outperformed the fourth season of Bridgerton (whose remaining episodes will be released on February 26th).
Okay, so the third season really surprised me with some casting changes. It wasn’t just Buchanan leaving – they brought in a bunch of fresh faces! I was excited to see Jennifer Morrison, Genesis Rodriguez, and Stephen Moyer join the cast. It definitely felt like a new direction for the show.
Those who enjoy Larkin and Sutherland’s dynamic will be glad to hear their connection with journalist Isabel De Leon (Rodriguez) is just a friendship. Together, they’re investigating the mystery behind the shooting down of Flight Pima 12 over Venezuela.
As a big fan of The Night Agent, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for season four! Netflix clearly likes the show – the first season was a huge hit, and they immediately ordered two more. We’ve now got season three, but that’s all that’s been confirmed so far. They seem pretty confident in it, but until they officially renew it, the future of the series is still uncertain, which is a little nerve-wracking!
