Leighton Meester Details “False Start” With Husband Adam Brody

Leighton Meester might have heard that Adam Brody was trouble, but ultimately she couldn’t resist. 

Following a quick romance, the stars of Gossip Girl and The O.C. got married in 2014. Years later, she revealed she might have married him even earlier if she hadn’t hesitated.

Blake Leighton recently shared with Penn Badgley on his podcast, Podcrushed, that she often experienced confusing beginnings to romantic relationships. She described situations where she mistakenly believed someone was interested in a friend, only to later discover it was her future husband all along. She admitted to wondering why she didn’t realize it sooner, acknowledging some past romantic choices were clearly mistakes, but questioning if those experiences were necessary for her journey.

Leighton acknowledged Penn was right about timing being crucial, but she still believed she could have saved time and trouble if she’d simply trusted her instincts.

“He’s the best choice,” she said. “I truly believe he’d be a good fit for many, because he’s genuinely a kind and decent person.”

For Adam’s part, he’d previously shared that he was sold on Leighton far before sparks flew. 

You know, looking back on how Chris and I first met, it was instant! I remember being completely smitten right away – he really struck me as something special, almost otherworldly. I told Anna Faris on her podcast a few years ago that he seemed like a total dream!

Although Adam and Leighton, who have two children together, didn’t get back together for another two years, they quickly built a happy life once they did.

You know, when my husband and I first started dating, things moved pretty quickly! We actually got married fairly soon after, and honestly, it felt like a really natural decision for both of us. It just felt right, and we knew we wanted to build a life together. I shared this on the Jess Cagle Show a while back, and it still rings true – it was an easy choice!

He had always imagined having a family someday and felt enthusiastic about it. He said it felt right when he finally found the right partner and the opportunity arose.

They don’t take their relationship for granted. Leighton has explained that she and Adam have stayed together by appreciating how fortunate they are to have each other.

In a 2023 interview with TopMob News, she explained that they prioritize their relationship by giving each other plenty of respect, time, and focused attention, and by truly investing their energy into it.

Despite ongoing speculation about whether they were dating, the two didn’t address the rumors directly. However, a recent photo seemed to speak for itself.

Meester and Brody got married in a super-secretive ceremony in 2014.

Brody previously shared that becoming a father is “the best in every way.”

In their spare time, this couple enjoys giving back to their community.

Having previously worked together on the 2011 film The Oranges, the actors teamed up again in 2019 for an episode of Tami Sagher’s show, Single Parents. Brody played the role of an ex-boyfriend to her character.

Although the couple hadn’t publicly shared that they were expecting another child, Brody confirmed in September 2020 that Meester had given birth to their second baby.

Leighton joined Adam at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards in January 2025, where he was nominated for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy TV Series for his work on Nobody Wants This.

In February, Leighton and Adam had another date night, this time at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
