The second season of Daredevil: Born Again won’t immediately follow the events of the first. Season 1 ended with Wilson Fisk, as mayor of New York City, firmly in control. He began a program called “Safer Streets,” essentially putting the city under martial law and making all vigilante actions illegal. Matt Murdock, realizing how dangerous the situation has become, has gone into hiding after being targeted by Kingpin’s task force and is now planning to gather allies.
Dario Scardapane, the showrunner for Daredevil: Born Again, recently told SFX Magazine that Season 2 will begin about six months after the events of Season 1.
Fisk is now in power, and the city is slowly falling under his control. The story picks up six months after his rise, with his administration firmly established. However, a resistance movement is beginning to form in secret.
As a film lover, I’m really fascinated by how New York City feels like it’s changing right now. It’s almost like watching a story unfold – is it a hopeful revival, or something falling apart? And what’s even more compelling is seeing how these big shifts in power are really changing the people who live there, reshaping their lives in unexpected ways.
Daredevil: Season 2 Has Moved Six Months Farther Into the Future
Most fans already know the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s timeline is inconsistent. Andrew Guest, a writer for the upcoming Wonder Man series, confirmed that his show intentionally avoids specifying when it takes place, leading many to believe Marvel has stopped prioritizing a clear timeline before the Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars movies. However, it appears the second season of Daredevil: Born Again will jump forward six months, potentially making it the furthest point in the MCU timeline we’ve seen so far.
This pretty much confirms that the Thunderbolts story happens while Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin, is in power, which is a fun detail. It means a whole team of New Avengers was active in New York during that time. Interestingly, since they’re operating out of the Watchtower (formerly Avengers Tower), there’s actually an Avengers team working in the city throughout all of this. However, we already know they won’t be directly involved in these events, as the Contessa will make sure her superhero team stays out of local issues. Also, Born Again Season 2 won’t feature any additional cameos from the MCU.
New York City feels very different these days, becoming tougher and more dangerous, with a lot of underlying anger. Matt Murdock is trying to use this tension to defeat the Kingpin, who is building his own forces. It’s clear Murdock has had to make some difficult choices and compromise his principles along the way.
