Apple TV+’s sci-fi show inspired by Godzilla is preparing for a season focused on time travel. Actress Mari Yamamoto, who returns for Season 2, has given a preview of what viewers can expect.
In a recent interview, Yamamoto discussed her character, Keiko Miura, a scientist who studied monsters in the 1950s. At the end of the last season, Keiko fell into the Hollow Earth, and now finds herself lost in time. The show will present her with new and dangerous challenges. Yamamoto hinted, “She’s quickly thrown into the action after a brief, confusing start.”

What really struck me about Keiko’s story is how immediately she’s forced to react – there’s no time for her to wallow or overthink things. As Yamamoto pointed out, this actually feels incredibly true to her character. Keiko is someone who naturally looks for a way to be helpful and move forward, and the film beautifully captures that instinctual response to adversity. It’s a wonderfully realistic portrayal, and it makes her journey all the more compelling.
More episodes of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 are coming out every week until May 1st. This means fans will have a chance to follow Keiko’s story, and according to Yamamoto, the character will develop significantly throughout the season.
Yamamoto explained that she’s determined to discover what truly matters to her. She’s also a very caring person, so even if others don’t reciprocate, she’ll continue to give love freely. When working on the story, I focused on balancing different time periods while staying true to her character and motivations.
Legacy of Monsters Season 2 Just Dropped on Apple TV
The show premiered on Apple TV in November 2023, and viewers have been eagerly awaiting the continuation of the story for over two years. Season one picks up a year after Godzilla’s return, revealing surprising details about the secret organization known as Monarch and exploring events across different time periods.
Keiko’s adventures through time will be a major focus in Season 2, allowing Yamamoto’s character to finally share scenes with the entire cast. Yamamoto especially enjoyed this aspect of filming, saying, “I feel very fortunate to work with such a talented and wonderful cast. It’s a real treat to get to act alongside everyone.”
