Taylor Dearden has to unplug whenever she’s on the set of The Pitt.
The actress who plays Dr. Mel King on the medical drama confirmed on March 1st at the 2026 Actor Awards that cell phones aren’t allowed during filming. (Check out photos of all the celebrities on the red carpet here.)
Taylor explained to Keltie Knight on Live From TopMob: Actor Awards 2026 that a rule set by John Wells – an executive producer and director of several episodes of The Pitt – helps maintain consistency within the show’s universe, something Taylor personally appreciates.
It keeps everyone connected – both to the work we’re doing and to each other. This means when we get a moment to relax, we naturally chat and interact, which is great for building a strong team.
To ensure her family—including her parents, Bryan Cranston and Robin Dearden—could always reach her quickly, she’d leave her cell phone in her dressing room. She’d then share the production’s contact number with loved ones for emergencies.
The Pitt has received two nominations for this year’s Actor Awards. It’s up for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, and Noah Wyle, the show’s lead actor, is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series.
So, what advice has Taylor’s actor parents given her on how to navigate a busy red carpet?
She advised focusing on developing a skilled character. She explained she was still getting to know the character, as everything about it was unfamiliar to her.
The 33-year-old also feels supported by her fellow cast members. As her costar, Shabana Azeez, shared with TopMob News, they’ve truly become like a family off-screen.
Even with all the buzz around The Pitt, things on set still feel wonderfully down-to-earth. As someone who’s been watching, it’s amazing that the atmosphere hasn’t changed a bit. That’s what I’ve gathered from talking to Nazanin Boniadi, who plays Victoria Javadi – she described it as a genuinely lovely environment to work in, and I totally believe her. It’s just a really sweet place to be, and that’s what makes it so special.
