This week’s Radio Times feels a little sad, actually. It’s the last episode of the current series of Call the Midwife, and honestly, it’s hard to believe! It’s become a real Sunday night tradition for me – I’ve been hooked since it started back in 2012, and it seems like everyone at my place feels the same way. Judging by the letters you guys get, I’m definitely not alone in saying it’s one of those shows that really gets under your skin and you genuinely care about.
We talked to Heidi Thomas, the creator of Call the Midwife, about her decision to temporarily stop production and what it feels like to take a break after fifteen years. Thankfully, the show isn’t ending completely. With a prequel set during World War II and a movie also in the works, the world of Call the Midwife – or CTM, as we call it around the office – will continue to grow and change instead of simply disappearing.
It feels particularly fitting that this issue comes out on International Women’s Day. We’ve asked talented female writers to interview the stars of some of this week’s most anticipated shows and books, including the wonderful Brenda Blethyn and bestselling author Patricia Cornwell.
