Recently, the detailed gameplay of Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yōtei was unveiled, revealing aspects such as exploration, combat, and other features. However, there remains speculation about whether Jin Sakai, the protagonist from Ghost of Tsushima, might make an appearance in some capacity. Yet, co-director Nate Fox appears to have put an end to these expectations.
In an interview with VGC, Fox expressed that they deeply care for Jin Sakai and have invested a considerable amount of time in telling his tale. However, when they embarked on the journey to develop a sequel, their aim was to create something that sparked excitement among the team at Sucker Punch. They believe this eagerness and affection for crafting an origin story is evident to players, allowing them to enjoy something fresh and unique.
Atsu’s tale is filled with unexpected twists, and introduces fresh characters that enrich the narrative. While we deeply appreciate Jin Sakai and his journey of relinquishing honor to embrace the ghost, we wanted to offer players an opportunity to explore this alternative perspective on being a ghost in Feudal Japan.
As a gamer, I’ve been pondering about the possibility of Jin Sakai showing up in ‘Ghost of Yōtei’. Given that this story takes place centuries after his time in Tsushima, it feels unlikely he’d appear physically. Yet, whispers of his potential reincarnation have been circulating, maybe as the wolf who occasionally lends a paw to Atsu. Only time will reveal if this is true, so keep your eyes peeled for any future developments!
The “Ghost of Yōtei” is scheduled to release on October 2nd for PS5. This game takes place in Ezo (later known as Hokkaido), where Atsu comes back home after a long time to seek vengeance against the Yōtei Six, who murdered her family. Aside from her katana, she can now wield other weapon types such as the yari, kusarigama, dual blades, and many more. For all the up-to-date information, take a look at our feature.
