Bungie recently revealed more information about the upcoming seasons for Marathon, including what will change with the release of Season 1 this month. They also surprised fans with a stunning launch trailer that highlights the complex relationship between the characters known as the Thief and Triage. The trailer features the song “In Death We’ve Just Begun” by Poppy and Son Lux. You can watch it below.
If you’ve experienced even one playthrough of Marathon, you’ll quickly recognize these events. Alongside a Destroyer, the pair will repeatedly face danger and death – whether from attacks by rival runner groups, losing battles against UESC robots, or the poisonous plants of Tau Ceti IV. They’ll go through moments of understanding, frustration, and accusations, but ultimately they’ll work together to reach the UESC Marathon and the final level, Cryo Archive.
Man, we were ambushed by that thing inside, and it was chaos. Our Triage was patching up the Destroyer, but naturally, the Thief just grabbed what he could and ran. Then, a few cycles later, we crossed paths again, but this time I was flying solo. Honestly, things could’ve gone better, but I think Bungie wants us to feel that cycle of loss and keep trying in the next life. It’s kinda the whole point of the story, you know?
Marathon launches on March 5th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
