Wildlight Entertainment’s free-to-play shooter, Highguard, will be shutting down later this month. Player numbers dropped significantly after its January release, leading to speculation about its future. Those predictions have now been confirmed, as Wildlight has decided to discontinue the game.
Wildlight announced on social media today that the game Highguard will be permanently shut down on March 12th. Before then, a final update will be released with some new features. After March 12th, the game will no longer be available.
I’m really bummed to share some tough news. The creators of Highguard just announced they’re shutting it down for good on March 12th. It’s sad because over two million of us jumped into that world since it launched! We all gave a lot of feedback, made cool stuff within the game, and honestly, a lot of us really believed in what they were building. They said they’re super grateful for everything we did, and honestly, I’m grateful for the fun I had there too.
Our team put a lot of effort into this game, but unfortunately, we haven’t been able to attract enough players to keep it running long-term. The game servers will be online until March 12th. We’d love for you to play one last time and enjoy a few final matches before then!
Highguard’s Shutdown Is Disappointing, But Expected

The news that Highguard is closing isn’t a surprise, as many people had expected it for weeks. It’s still sad to see the game fail, even though it had issues. Wildlight did a good job of listening to players and quickly implementing their suggestions, which is a positive thing.
Even though the developers kept adding new features and ways to play, it wasn’t enough to win back players who quickly stopped playing Highguard after it launched. With no clear path forward, Wildlight has decided to shut down the game, joining other unsuccessful shooting games like Concord, Lawbreakers, and Anthem.
