Despite the remarkable success and sales outperformance of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” for Ubisoft, it stands in stark contrast to “Star Wars Outlaws“. Released on August 31st, 2024, Massive Entertainment’s open-world action-adventure game struggled to meet expectations. By October, it was reported to have sold only one million units.
During a recent shareholders’ gathering, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot attributed the game’s less-than-stellar sales performance not only to design flaws but also to the fact that the game was launched at a time when its associated brand was experiencing some turbulence. (Source: Game File)
Although Star Wars Jedi: Survivor faced a similar predicament upon its 2023 release, it managed to perform admirably due to being the sequel to the critically-adored Jedi: Fallen Order. Conversely, Outlaws debuted as an entirely new intellectual property.
Star Wars: Outlaw – the game – can now be played on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and personal computers. Since its debut, it has received multiple updates that enhanced stealth, combat, and other aspects of the game. Additionally, two story-based DLCs titled “Wild Card” and “A Pirate’s Fortune” are available for purchase. As of now, it’s uncertain if more content will be added, but the creative director, Julian Gerighty, has moved on to work on Tom Clancy’s The Division 3.
